Prescott High School (22-3) has had another amazing season under the leadership of Head Coach Travis Stedman. After a strong 21-4 season last year, Prescott has posted 22 wins on the season this year, before even reaching this year's state playoffs. Prescott is poised to make a nice playoff run this year, as the team finished the season as winners of their last (13) games on the season. Regardless of how this Prescott team finishes in this year's state playoffs, the team will be surely led by the terrific play of 6-foot, 165-pound junior stud guard Uriah Tenette. Tenette has been on complete fire all season, as he is ranked among the elite scorers of the ball in America this season. No one is playing better in the state right now than Tenette, as he looks to lead his Prescott team into the Open Division State Playoffs.
Tenette is becoming a star in his own right, as he has become a household name in Northern Arizona, as a result of his exploits on the basketball court. Tenette is now becoming a national figure as well among national scouts and media, as he ranks among the single best scorers of the basketball in the country - averaging an eye-popping 31.9 points per/game this season, to go with 5.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2.7 steals per/game. Tenette, while small in stature, post huge numbers and is sharing a resemblance as a player to one of my former players that I coached, former NBA guard Isaiah Thomas. Like Thomas, Tenette is left-handed, an explosive athlete and can score the basketball at a uniquely high rate.
This week, Tenette also received his first Division-I scholarship offer to his credit, from UC-San Diego (UCSD). Tenette is worthy of many more offers, as he can flat out play, regardless of his size. With an offer now on the table for himself, I would expect many more programs that have been considering recruiting him, to now consider pulling the trigger on an offer. UCSD is the first program to step up to the plate, a member of the Big West Conference, which is a nice level for any Arizona prospect.
Last season as a sophomore, Tenette poured in very impressive numbers also - averaging 23.3 points, 5 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 3.6 steals per/contest. He also averaged very similar numbers as a freshman, but raised his scoring a great deal in his second varsity season - leading Prescott to a strong 21-4 overall record on the season, and a 4A Second Round State Playoff loss to Mesquite High School, after falling in the Open Division to Open Division State Champion Runner-up Sunnyslope High School.
Prescott will have an opportunity to advance deep into the Open Division State Playoffs this season, as Tenette is much better than he was last season, and playing at a very high level. He also has very good support from his teammates this season, including the strong post play from 6-foot-11 junior post Zane Gaul. Prescott will not be a sleeper in this year's state playoffs, as they were last season. Everyone sees Prescott coming this year, as defenses will be heavily designed and focused on slowing down Tenette.
I will continue to follow Tenette and his Prescott teammates this high school season, as they prepare to make a splash in this year's Open Division State Playoffs.
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: A native of Sacramento, California, Tenette is an explosive scorer of the basketball that can shoot with range, or create for himself and his teammates off the dribble. He has a nice change of pace and speed, which sets up his drives to the basket or mid-range game. He can catch and shoot or shoot on the move, while also looking to set up his teammates for scoring opportunities. Tenette is a left-hander, which also makes him difficult to defend. He is smaller in stature but has excellent explosiveness and athleticism, which allows him to score the basketball over bigger defenders in the lane. Tenette is still growing, but his athleticism more than makes up for his lack of size. He is a strong ball handler and passer that sees the floor and pushes the ball. He has added some serious physical strength over the past two seasons, and I look forward to his continued growth physically, which will benefit him a great deal over time.
