One of the most electrifying scorers in Arizona high school basketball history is headed to the Mountain West Conference. Prescott High School's electrifying 6-foot senior point guard Uriah Tenette has officially given a verbal commitment to the University of New Mexico - capping off an extraordinary high school career.
Tenette is coming off a remarkable senior season where he earned Region Player of the Year honors in the 4A's Grand Canyon Conference. He was also selected as the Offensive Player of the Year and named to the All-Region First Team, highlighting his dominant and consistent play throughout the 2024–25 season. Tenette was also selected as a member of the Arizona Republic's All-Arizona Team for the 2024-2025 season.
In (29) games this year, Tenette averaged 29.2 points, 6 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game, while establishing himself as one of the premier guards in the state. He also led all players in the 4A Division, and the entire state of Arizona, in free throws made - converting 211 free throws, which ranked 14th nationally. His ability to get to the line and convert was a major factor in his overall scoring dominance.
Tenette made national headlines earlier in the season when he exploded for 54 points in a highly anticipated matchup against McDonald’s All-American Alijah Arenas, showcasing his elite scoring ability and toughness against one of the best players in the country.
Originally committed to UC-San Diego, Tenette reopened his recruitment after a coaching change, as UCSD’s coaching staff accepted a position at the University of New Mexico. After weighing his options, Tenette chose to follow the staff that believed in him early on and committed to the Lobos, where he’ll bring his elite scoring touch and playmaking ability to the Mountain West.
Over the course of his high school career, Uriah Tenette has proven to be a special talent - one of the most productive and dynamic guards we’ve seen in recent Arizona basketball memory. He has tremendous pace with the ball, excellent vision, and a feel for the game that few players possess. He can score from all three levels, create off the dribble, and has the toughness and confidence needed to thrive at the next level. With his combination of leadership, competitive fire and elite skill-set, Tenette has the tools to make an immediate impact at New Mexico. His high school legacy is cemented, and now a bright collegiate future lies ahead.
Congratulations to Tenette and his family on his tremendous accomplishments throughout the season and now in his college recruitment from our Arizona Preps' staff.
