One of Arizona’s top frontcourt prospects in the 2028 class is on the move once again. This week, 6-foot-8 rising junior Michael McIntyre announced that he will transfer from Higley High School to Sequoia National Prep, giving one of Arizona’s fastest-rising prep basketball programs another major addition to its growing national roster. McIntyre is one of the top frontcourt prospects in Arizona's 2028 Class, and do to unfortunate circumstances, this young man has changed programs each high school season, thus far. Hopefully he has now found a home for himself.
Sequoia National Prep enters just its second season competing with a National Team, but has already assembled one of the state’s most talented prep rosters, adding numerous highly regarded prospects from around the country. Under the strong leadership of Head Coach Gabe Sandoval, the program continues to build momentum as one of the premier destinations for elite talent. McIntyre is one of the few Arizona natives expected to be part of a roster that is primarily made up of out-of-state prospects.
McIntyre’s basketball journey has already included several stops. He previously attended AZ Compass Prep before transferring to Williams Field High School for his freshman season. He then transferred to Higley High School, where he enjoyed an outstanding sophomore campaign, while helping lead the Knights to a 19-8 overall record in Arizona’s 6A Conference, making Higley one of the state’s top programs last season. As a sophomore, McIntyre averaged 10.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 0.9 steals and 1.0 blocks per game. His production, combined with his size and physical style of play, has established him as one of the elite frontcourt prospects in Arizona’s 2028 class.
A talented low-post performer, McIntyre plays with his back to the basket and embraces the physical nature of the game. He is a strong rebounder with very good athleticism, a long, rangy frame, and finishes extremely well around the basket. His ability to control the paint on both ends of the floor is exactly what Sequoia National Prep needed entering this season, and he should make an immediate impact for the program.
Following the recent coaching changes at Higley High School, McIntyre became the latest standout Knight to move on. He joins fellow Higley standouts Marquise Pless and Isaiah Rider, who also recently announced transfers, marking a significant offseason of change for the program.
Earlier in his high school career, McIntyre received a scholarship offer from Arizona State University under the Sun Devils’ previous coaching staff. It remains unclear whether Arizona State’s new coaching staff will continue recruiting him, but McIntyre is certainly worthy of serious Division-I attention.
