The Pima College Aztecs have already made history during the 2024-2025 season, and they aren't done yet. Pima finished the season with a perfect 30-0 overall record, and an 18-0 record in ACCAC conference play. Their unmatched dominance made them the team to beat in Arizona junior college basketball, and also have them now ranked as the nation's #1 Division-II program in the NJCAA.
The Aztecs have thrived under the leadership of Head Coach Brian Peabody, who has turned Pima into one of the most respected JUCO programs in the country. Behind an explosive offense averaging 104.5 points per game and a defense that stifled opponents, Pima’s historic season is now focused on one ultimate goal—winning the NJCAA National Championship.
Coach Brian Peabody: The Architect of Pima’s Success
Few junior college coaches in the nation have built as strong of a program as Brian Peabody. With over (400) career wins, Peabody has transformed Pima into a JUCO powerhouse - consistently developing top-tier talent and leading his teams to deep playoff runs.
Peabody’s fast-paced offensive system and commitment to player development have made Pima one of the most respected JUCO programs in the country. This season, he guided the Aztecs to their first undefeated regular season, a feat that cements his legacy as one of the greatest coaches in Arizona JUCO history. He is already respected as one of the top high school coaches ever in the state.
But for Peabody, the job isn’t finished.
“This group has been special,” Peabody said. “But the real goal is still ahead—we want a national championship.”
What’s Next? The NJCAA National Tournament
#1 nationally ranked Pima will enter the NJCAA National Tournament as the #1 overall seed, with a target on their back. The Aztecs will face elite competition from across the country, including teams from Texas, Florida, and the Midwest.
With stud guard Cohenj Gonzales leading the backcourt, 6-foot-4 sophomore Max Majerle getting it done on the wing and 6-foot-8 sophomores Wes Ball and Gabe Oldham controlling the paint, among many others and Peabody guiding the way, Pima has all the tools to bring home the national title.
“We’re locked in,” said Gonzales. “30-0 was great, but now we have to go win it all.”
Can the Aztecs finish the job and claim the NJCAA National Championship? The journey continues, and all eyes are on Pima.
