Another member of Arizona's 2016 class is off the recruiting board, after Pinnacle High School's skilled 6-foot-9 senior post Nick Mains gave verbal commitment recently to Air Force, a member of the Mountain West Conference.
Mains had given the commitment more than a week ago, but decided to announce the decision this weekend. Mains will compete at the program's Prep Academy for a year, before moving on to the University and competing for the mid-major plus division-I program.
Mains chose Air Force over another scholarship offer from Arizona Christian University. Mains was also receiving interest from Seattle, Southern Utah, Idaho State and Northern Arizona.
Mains gained some exposure to college programs through his performance this spring and summer, while playing with the Passion 4 Ball club program and head coach Justin Allen.
Mains is also a good student and is already a full academic qualifier. Mains will have to serve in the armed forces after his playing days conclude at Air Force.
Congratulations to Nick and his family from our Arizona Preps staff on this big accomplishment for himself.
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: Mains is a long and very skilled wing prospect with excllent size. He has grown over the past year, and, as a result, he looks much more attractive these days to college coaches. It is still unclear as to whether he will play as a 3 or as a 4 in college, but that should depend heavily on which college program he chooses. Either way, Mains will need to add considerable physical strength at the next level to make an impact, but his skill level and feel for the game is a glaring attribute that he possesses. He has a nice shooting stroke with range and is also able to make plays for himself off the dribble, and finish at the rim. He is a very good passser that sees the floor - one of his best attributes. He also runs the floor very well, almost like a guard, and should flourish over time, as he grows into his physical frame and with natural maturity. Has excellent potential for the future.
