Hamilton High School (2-11) has had extreme success over the years under the leadership of Head Coach Doug Harris, but after losing key players to transfer from last season, this year's team has struggled to win games at the normal clip of previous seasons, but a prospect has emerged this season for Hamilton. Talented 6-foot-2 junior guard Nazir Davis is a nice offensive talent that is still learning the game from Coach Harris and his staff, but has proven that he is a player to be reckoned with this high school season, and has become a college prospect.
Still only a junior and a member of the 2024 Class, Davis is a gifted and athletic prospect that has serious offensive talent and is still learning how to put it all together. In this week's McClintock Holiday Shootout, Davis emerged as a serious offensive talent - showcasing his nice offensive talent in the event, and, again, proving that he is a special athletic talent, that with continued hard work and focus on his game, has the ability to really develop into a superb talent for Hamilton.
Davis caught my attention last season as a mere sophomore and then this early season in the Fear The Hop tournament, which he was unable to finish playing in due to travel plans with his family during the event for Thanksgiving. The McClintock Holiday Shootout became a sort of coming-out-party for this young man, as he was able to make many difficult shots under duress of a defender, create off the dribble and finish in the paint and from mid-range, and also showcase his superb athleticism in the open floor. Davis is a unique offensive talent that has the potential to be special, it will just depend on how much he truly wants it. His continued work ethic on his game will determine just how far he can go in the sport, but he has all of the physical tools.
Davis and junior guard Elijah St. Onge give Hamilton a nice backcourt to build on for Coach Harris and his staff for the remainder of this high school season, and next high school season. The combination of these two guards is formidable and will give Hamilton a chance every game. Elijah St. Onge is a steady performer that is consistent in his play, which benefits the ultra-athletic Nazir Davis, who can put up points in a hurry and create scoring opportunities on his own.
Currently, Davis does not have any college offers to his credit, but that will soon change over the next (12) months, as this young man is a serious juco talent that would benefit from a stint in the junior college ranks and play against high-level competition, while being coached and developed. His time under the leadership of Doug Harris, who is a coaching tactician and is also one of the best guards to ever grace the Arizona hardwood, will benefit Davis greatly, if he will take the coaching and development. This is what life and basketball is truly about, as this young man can benefit his life a great deal over the next few years, simply through being coachable and willing to challenge himself.
I will continue to follow Davis as a player and prospect closely over the next two years of high school basketball to see just how hard he continues to work, on and off the court, as he has the potential to really be a player.
