In case you missed it, Millennium High School's 5-foot-10 rising senior guard JT Amundsen has made his college decision - giving a big verbal commitment to Northern Arizona University and Head Coach Shane Burcar and his coaching staff. Amundsen’s announcement is a huge milestone in his basketball journey, as it marks his first NCAA Division-I offer and a major leap toward achieving his goals.
A varsity starter the past several seasons, Amundsen has been a steady floor general for Millennium’s powerhouse program - one of the premier high school basketball programs in the state. Coached by his father, Ty Amundsen, who is widely regarded as one of Arizona’s top high school coaches, JT has thrived in a disciplined and competitive system built on winning and player development. His commitment to the game and leadership on the court have made him an extension of the coach on the floor.
JT is a skilled, pass-first point guard who plays with excellent pace, feel, and basketball IQ. He is an elite shooter with deep range and a confident handle, capable of creating shots for himself and others. His ability to run an offense, make teammates better, and consistently knock down shots makes him an ideal fit for the next level. JT is also a high-character player who plays with toughness, composure, and a competitive spirit.
Coming from a strong basketball family, the Amundsen name has become synonymous with Arizona high school basketball excellence. JT’s older sister also excelled on the hardwood, continuing the family’s legacy. His commitment to NAU represents not just a personal milestone, but a proud moment for the entire Amundsen family.
As JT enters his senior year, he will look to help lead Millennium back to the Open Division State Playoffs, and this time with unfinished business. With his experience, skill-set and leadership, JT Amundsen will be one of the top senior guards to watch in Arizona this coming season.
Congratulations to the Amundsen family on this amazing accomplishment from our staff here @ Arizona Preps.
