It has been a long road for former Pinnacle High School and Bella Vista Prep product Logan Schayes. After a good prep school career for himself @ Bella Vista, which included a post-graduate season, Schayes, a 6-foot-8, 230-pound freshman transfer, played a successful season of college basketball this past year, and now has decided to transfer college programs - making him eligible to transfer to another four-year college program, or a junior college program, if needed. Schayes has become a nice prospect for college programs to take a hard look at this spring, as they look to fill roster spots for the fall. He is coming off a very productive college season for himself, and has the potential to make an impact wherever he ultimately lands for next season.
I was able to evaluate Schayes recently in this year's All-American Available Showcase event, held recently at Chandler-Gilbert Junior College. The event featured numerous unsigned junior college prospects, freshmen and sophomores, and Schayes was among the top overall individual performers in the event. The size, skill level and the overall motor displayed by Schayes in the event, had each of the college coaches and scouts in the building talking about his performance and potential as a college transfer. While numerous Division-II programs and junior college programs are now in the hunt for Schayes, as a result of his performance in the event, Schayes and his father, former NBA longtime veteran Danny Schayes, both advised me that they are looking to ultimately land at a Division-I program.
Logan advised me that he is currently hearing from Florida International and Lamar University, while numerous other schools have inquired at all different levels. He would like to transfer to a Division-I program, but he also admitted that he would consider a season of junior college basketball, if the right Division-I fit does not present itself. He would consider a season of junior college basketball, if it will help him land at the Division-I level, but he is hopeful that he will land a Division-i offer late.
Schayes played last season as a freshman for Beacon College (FL), a smaller college program coached by former NBA veteran Sam Vincent, a former NBA teammate and close friend of Danny Schayes. Unfortunately for Logan Schayes, while he would put up serious numbers during the season, the season for Beacon and Schayes would be cut short and his statistical production numbers would remain almost unknown or unpublished nationally. As a result, Schayes, while deciding to transfer college programs, is an almost unknown prospect. Beacon College is not an NCAA-member college program either, so he was unable to officially enter the NCAA Transfer Portal. Schayes instead has had to market himself to college programs this spring, in an attempt to reach his ultimate goal of playing Division-I basketball.
Schayes is an nice addition late for the right college fit, as he is an older college prospect now and is 21 years of age, but still has (3) years of eligibility for the collegiate level - making him a very attractive prospect for a college program looking to add size, toughness and experience to their roster. Schayes has a college-ready impact frame that allows him to finish strong around the rim, and also compete hard for rebounds. He also has a good overall skillset that allows him to score inside and out. He can post up smaller players and also take bigger post players outside on the wing, where he has a nice left-handed shooting stroke with some range on his shot. He is also able to score effectively with either hand around the basket, as he is ambidextrous and has a high basketball IQ. Schayes has excellent toughness and leadership qualities as a player, and is very vocal on the floor. He runs the floor extremely hard and plays with a serious purpose.
Schayes has had a tough road for himself over the years, as he has had to overcome a lot in his pursuit to become the best player and prospect possible, for him to maximize his potential as a player. He has kept the right attitude through it all.
"Everything I have gone through, up to this point, has prepared me for where I am today," said Logan Schayes.
Schayes is also an excellent student and carries a 4.0 CUM GPA, and earned an amazing 33 on his ACT in high school. I will continue to follow his recruitment closely the remainder of this spring and into the summer, as he looks to land at the right college fit for himself.
