Boulder Creek High School had a good season this year, as the program finished with a 19-11 overall record amidst a very tough season schedule in the 6A Division. Boulder Creek would eventually fall in the 6A State Semi-finals, but 6-foot-5 versatile senior guard/forward Landon Brewer would emerge for me in the process, as one of top unsigned senior performers for college programs to take a serious look at this spring. Brewer is one prospect that has a bright future ahead, and his best years are well ahead of him. This is one prospect that has a nice overall skillset, and is just learning how good he can become.
I have watched Brewer now for a couple seasons, as he has developed nicely into the player and prospect that he has become today. After watching him recently also in the recent AZ All-Star Shootout, I came away even more impressed, as Brewer was one of the top overall performers in the all-star game, and against elite competition - proving that he can play with the best and still get a lot done. In fact, he looked much better than I have seen him before, as he looked even better with better players around him, as he showed off serious versatility as a bigger ball handler and passer that sees the floor, and advances the ball with the pass. He also made shots with consistency and range, and also has a good mid-range game that allows him to excel in the half-court set.
It is unclear as to which direction Brewer will decide to head for college still, but this young man could really blossom after a year or two in the junior college ranks, as I believe he would maximize his college recruitment with more exposure to college programs, which juco provides. He is able to play for a smaller college now, but I wonder if many coaches have seen him play, thus limiting his college recruitment. Brewer should begin to generate much more interest late for himself this spring, as more college coaches turn to recruiting high school prospects.
Brewer's numbers this season were not glaring as he averaged 11 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists per/game this season. He has the potential to put up better numbers though in college, as he is just beginning to realize his potential as a player. I expect Brewer to really develop in the right college program, and become a nice recruiting target over time, as he matures
I will continue to follow his recruitment closely this spring, to see what ultimately develops for Brewer, but I believe this young man can really have a good college future ahead him with the right college fit.
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: Brewer is a bigger guard prospect that has excellent versatility as a result of his size and skillset, which allows him to play multiple positions on the floor. He can operate from the point position and handle the ball in the open floor, or make plays in the half-court set as he is able to survey the floor and get the ball to the open teammate. A very good shooter with range on his shot and he also has a good mid-range game that allows him to post up smaller guards, and make plays off the dribble and around the paint. Fundamentally sound. Has a high basketball IQ and a nice overall feel for the game. Capable of becoming a much better rebounder and perimeter defender with more focus. His versatility and the mis-match he can create for opposing guards are his best attributes. A very good sleeper prospect.
