With the start to the 2024-2025 high school basketball season now upon us, the exciting wait for the beginning of the high school career of one of the state's best ever young phenoms is almost over. After an historic young career already in the state, Mesa High School's terrific 6-foot-3 freshman point guard Kyi Kyi Miles is set to begin his amazing high school career. Miles is coming off a terrific summer and fall performance where he torched his competition, while competing against the nation's top talent around the country. Miles also shocked the state when he decided to land at Mesa High School this summer for his high school career. He now prepares for a big freshman season, which will have he and his Mesa teammates competing for a 6A State Championship.
The highly anticipated high school career for Miles will kick off the 2024-2025 high school basketball season in the state, as he will lead his team in this year's always exciting Mesa Fear The Hop basketball tournament. The Mesa Fear The Hop tournament always kicks off the high school basketball season, and this year's 21st Annual event looks to be as exciting as ever, with a strong field of teams planned for the event. With (16) different Arizona high schools being represented in the event, Mesa High School will kick-off the tournament and the high school basketball season - playing in the first game of the tournament, a 1:30PM Monday afternoon match-up with Desert Sunrise High School. The game will be played at Mesa High School, as part of the tournament, and in front of a large number of Mesa students and fans. Many people will be in attendance to watch their Mesa program, but almost everyone will also want to see the first AIA high school game for Kyi Kyi Miles.
Miles has been regarded as one of the elite prospects in America for the 2028 Class for some time now, being a widely recognized prospect on the Made Hoops basketball circuit, and being regarded by many scouts that cover younger prospects as the top overall point guard prospect in the country. Kyi Kyi excelled during two prep seasons with top-rated AZ Compass Prep as a 7th and 8th grader, before his transfer to Mesa. This spring and summer he continued his strong play on the 15U Nike EYBL circuit, while traveling with the Oakland Soldiers (CA). In one Nike EYBL event during the spring, Miles exploded in the event, as he had numerous strong performances and poured in a game-high 35 points in a match-up with then #1 ranked Team Durant.
Miles followed his spring up with a consistently strong performance throughout the summer as well. Miles then had a very strong fall with big performances in the highly competitive AZ Compass Prep Fall League, and also a strong Top 20 all-star performance in the prestigious Pangos All-West Freshman/Sophomore Camp in September. Miles then followed that up with a nice performance in this year's Arizona Preps Fall Showcase, as he was one of the highlighted performers in the event.
Miles also attended an informal NBA Pre-Draft Camp during the fall in Las Vegas, a camp which was comprised of many current top Division-I college players from around the country. Each of the participants in the camp received instruction from current NBA personnel and scouts, including Joe Abunassar, the owner of Impact Basketball Academy, and a well respected person in the industry. During the camp, it was stated by several different NBA scouts that they thought Miles was the best overall prospect in the camp. Former NBA players in attendance included Stacey Augmon (Atlanta Hawks), Randy Brown (Chicago Bulls) and also Al Harrington (Indiana Pacers). Each of them personally told me that Miles was the best overall prospect in the camp - a camp that included such top college prospects as KJ Lewis (University of Arizona).
Miles is on another level, and is worthy of a Top 10 national ranking in America's 2028 Class, when ESPN soon releases their national player rankings for the class. While William Field High School's stud 2028 guard prospect Adan Diggs should also receive the same honor, Miles is regarded as the top point guard prospect in the class. Because Miles has a true position on the floor, it makes it much more of a decisive process for national scouts and media.
As a result of the excitement that has been generated by this young phenom, college programs are getting in line, as numerous Division-I programs have already extended offers to Miles. He already possesses offers from Arizona State University, Creighton, Texas Tech, University of Texas-Arlington and University of San Francisco. It is just a matter of time before just about every Division-I program in the country will offer this young man.
Miles is a rare find as he has excellent size as a point guard prospect - standing at 6-3 in with a long, rangy physical frame. He has an excellent handle of the basketball and feel for the game, a lost art among today's players. As a result he makes players around him better with the ball in his hands, and he enjoys making the pass. He is a floor general with the ball and is vocal on the floor, also a nice attribute. He is an exceptional scorer that can score at all (3) levels, with a pure shooting stroke that has nice range on his shot. He will only become much more effective over time in all facets of his game, as he continues to mature and get stronger physically, but he has played up throughout his life and against top-rated competition, which has benefited him a great deal already as a player. Miles lets the game come to him and he does not force the action often. He has command presence on the basketball court.
Miles is next in line among young national elite-level prospects, and he is part of a very loaded 2028 Class in the state of Arizona. The start to Miles' AIA career is upon us, and it should be a very exciting career for sure. I am personally looking forward to watching Miles lead Mesa High in this year's 2024 Mesa Fear The Hop event, and during the 2024-2025 high school basketball season.
