According to reports, Basha High School's 6-foot-9 rising senior post Klay Stall has suffered a summer and season ending injury to his knee. As a result, the talented post prospect will now miss the summer and his senior season while in recovery.
The injury came in recent competition while with his Basha HS team at the University of San Diego basketball team camp. Stall suffered a torn acl and a torn mcl - both meniscus were torn, while he also suffered a partial tear in his popiteal ligament. Stall also bruised his fibula bone on fibula. Stall will wait another 2-3 weeks before having surgery.
Stall is one of the best prospects in Arizona's 2016 class - one of the elite bigs in a center-laden 2016 class in Arizona. Stall is a typical back-to-the-basket center, as he uses his great, long frame and solid low-post footwork to score around, thru, and over defenders.
One of the best assets of Stall’s game is his offensive/ defensive rebounding abilities. He is always in the right place at the right time, and outworks others to get his hand on the basketball. Stall is an alert passer, as he can see when double-teams are coming, and he will spray out to an open shooter, or dish off to an open cutter.
On the defensive side, Stall’s girth and long wingspan alone detour offensive players from coming into the lane, and he also is an able shot-blocker as he alters or blocks many of the shots that are put up around him.
Stall currently holds offers from Eastern Washington, Portland State, San Jose State, North Dakota, UC Santa Barbara, Northern Arizona University and Fresno State. He has indicated that he will stilll narrow his list down to a final 5 schools, and then make his college decision this fall. Stall has indicated that the colleges recruiting him, have still shown interested in honoring his scholarship offer.
Stall will now spend his senior season recovering from this severe injury, and I hope that he can return to form over time. This is a terrible injury for one of the state's most promising prospects, and myself and our staff wish him a speedy and complete recovery.
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: Stall is very large in size and is still growing a great deal into his long frame. While he is still raw offensively, he is developing considerably and should become a very nice post player over time with continued hard work and skill development. He currently has a good jump hook and solid low-post footwork, and is a good finisher inside. He is an active rebounder for his size and a good finisher at the rim. As a he continues to get physically stronger he will see major improvement. Stall is a good shotblocker and also changes shots. He runs the floor well for his size as well. A good passer out of the post. He still needs some work on his shooting ability away from the paint to keep defenses honest. While suffering a serious knee injury, Stall will hope to regain his form at the collegiate level. He will have his work cut out for him over the next year while recovering. A nice kid with very good work ethic though. He should be fine in the recovery process, as his length and size make him very productive.
