6-foot-7 senior wing Karon Bailey has been one of the more underrated prospects in Arizona's 2018 class for some time. A native of New York, Bailey moved to the state of Arizona this high school season to pick up his career at the surging prep program, AZ Compass Prep in Chandler. After going unsigned throughout the spring and summer evaluation period, Bailey has now signed with a junior college program in California.
This week, after considering Glendale JC and Ventura Junior College in California, Bailey decided to accept an invitation to play for Ventura Junior College in California. Ventura JC assistant coach Lester Neal was instrumental in landing Bailey. Neal, a former standout performer at Arizona State University in the early 1990's, also coached in the ACCAC at Scottsdale Junior College and Chandler-Gilbert JC.
Bailey did not receive a passing test score to qualify academically for NCAA Division-I institutions, so he will need to graduate from the junior college ranks before moving on in the future.
Congratulations to Bailey, his family and supporters, as well as the AZ Compass Prep program on this accomplishment for Bailey. Our staff here at Arizona Preps wishes him well in his continued development as a player and as a young man.
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: Karon Bailey is a nice overall talent with a superb offensive skillset to score at all three levels. A native of the streets of New York, Bailey has a strong personality and still lacks overall physical maturity, but his overall potential and upside is tremendous and worthy of serious notice. Bailey is a very good shooter with range on his shot, which allows him to play on the perimeter. He can get his shot off against defenders, and also create scoring opportunities for himself and others off the dribble. He is a good ball handler and passer that sees the floor, but he needs to become more disciplined with the basketball in his hands. A solid defender that, when he competes hard, he gets a lot done on the defensive end. An active rebounder but lacks physical strength still. As he matures, Bailey has a lot in his bag that should allow him to blossom over time.
