One of the top players and prospects in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) will be returning for a second season. Yavapai College 6-foot-4, 185-pound sophomore guard Jason Parent had a terrific season last year for the Roughriders, and now has been given an opportunity to play another season by the NJCAA, after he did not play his freshman season. Parent has been a big-time athletic talent for some time, but has not received his just due in his college recruitment. Now with another season on tap for Parent, he will look to return to the ACCAC as one of the highlighted prospects in the conference - a fact that should benefit him a great deal this season in his college recruitment.
Jason Parent's path has been unique for him, but has become the norm in today's road for college prospects. Parent's road to prominence in Northern Arizona basketball is a testament to hard work and determination. He first started his career for Northern Arizona University (NAU) after high school, before ultimately landing at Yavapai College last season. Standing at 6-foot-4 and 185 pounds, the now sophomore guard is coming off a big freshman season for Yavapai College and Head Coach Kevon Davis - earning an impressive honor as the ACCAC Defensive Player of the Year and a Second-Team All-Conference selection.
Parent received loads of recruiting interest this spring and summer, before making his decision to return to Yavapai for a second season. Parent has received numerous Division-II offers for himself this off-season, but his desire to play Division-I basketball looms heavy. Parent will look to gain Division-I recruitment during his second season at Yavapai.
Parent’s basketball journey began at Prescott High School, where he averaged impressive numbers - 26.5 points, 8.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 3.3 steals per game during his senior year, and becoming a household name in Northern Arizona. After redshirting at Northern Arizona University, he spent some time at Nebraska Wesleyan University, before returning home to Prescott to enroll at Yavapai.
Known for his NBA-level athleticism, Parent is a highlight-reel player capable of electrifying dunks and an excellent shooting stroke. He’s at his best as an off-guard, but can handle point guard duties in crucial situations. With strong rebounding skills and the ability to defend multiple positions, he’s a well-rounded prospect that should have an even bigger sophomore season now at Yavapai, and should earn Division-I opportunities again with another year. While Parent is a big-time talent, he is a prospect that you have to see play several times to really gain an appreciation for his craft and ability to play the game.
Jason Parent's journey is far from over, and will now continue for a big sophomore season. I believe Parent is one of the most intriguing junior college prospects in the West.
I will continue to follow his college recruitment closely, and bring you any updates as they continue to develop throughout the remainder of the summer, fall and the junior college season. Congratulations to Parent and his family on his nice accomplishments up to this point, and for returning to the ACCAC next season.
