One of the top overall prospects to come out of Northern Arizona over the past several years has been Prescott High School 2022 graduate Jason Parent. Parent posted impressive numbers throughout his high school career and became a household name in Northern Arizona. After spending a season at Northern Arizona University during his freshman season as a redshirt, and then attending Nebraska Wesleyan University (NE) this fall, Parent recently decided to return home from the D-3 program, and now has decided to enroll at Yavapai College, where he will pick up his career next season as a sophomore transfer next season.
The Yavapai program made a lot of sense for Parent, who will be looking to gain exposure to bigger college programs, while staying close to home in the process. Yavapai College Head Coach Kevon Davis has already done a fine job in resurrecting the Yavapai basketball program, and has his team competing hard to win ball games. Parent will be an excellent addition for the Roughriders next season, and is a very good prospect that is still looking for the right fit for himself.
A 6-foot-4, 185-pound juco transfer, Parent had a terrific senior season (2022) where he led his Prescott program to a very competitive season, and averaged staggering numbers in the process - pouring in 26.5 points, 8.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 3.3 steals per/contest. Parent's numbers were some of the best numbers in the country.
Parent, now a couple years older since we last saw him dominate the Arizona hardwood, is an intriguing prospect. He has serious physical strength and athleticism that allow him to play well above the rim, and make plays on the floor. Parent is a human highlight reel and an elite dunker for his size. He also possesses an excellent shooting stroke with serious range that he shoots consistently and at a high clip. He can shoot on the run or from the standstill position, and is able to create his own shot off the dribble. Parent is at his best at the off-guard position, but is capable of handling the basketball from the point position in certain situations. He is a strong and active rebounder also that plays bigger than his size suggests, and is capable of guard several positions on the court.
Parent will look to get better acquainted with his new college program and teammates for the remainder of the high school season, and look to make an impact in the ACCAC next fall. I will continue to follow Parent's progress as a player closely this up-and-coming spring and summer, as he should be an excellent addition for the Yavapai program next season.
