While he was a relatively unknown prospect just a year ago, Mesa High School's rapidly developing 6-foot-10 rising sophomore Jace Parris has quickly emerged as one of the top young prospects to watch in Arizona's talented 2029 class. After several impressive performances throughout the spring and summer, including a very strong showing at this year's Section 7 Tournament, Parris has firmly established himself as one of the state's fastest-rising young prospects. Already standing 6-foot-10 and still growing, Parris has made tremendous strides through his dedication to improving his game, and the skill development he has received under the leadership of Head Coach Scott Stansberry and the dedicated Mesa High School coaching staff.
Parris continues to develop at a rapid pace because of his competitiveness, willingness to learn, and ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor. His tremendous size and length immediately stand out, but it is his mobility that has many evaluators excited. He runs the floor extremely well for a player his size, and has shown steady improvement as a scorer and finisher around the basket.
Defensively, he has become an effective rim protector with his ability to block and alter opponent's shots. While Parris still has plenty of room to grow and develop, he has already displayed the flashes of a player with tremendous long-term potential. His combination of size, athleticism, work ethic, and upside make him one of Arizona's most intriguing young prospects, and he is certainly a player college coaches will begin monitoring very closely over the next several years.
Mesa Head Coach Scott Stansberry is excited about the progress Parris has made.
"Jace has really developed for us, and he is starting to come into his own as a player," Stansbury said. "We really believe he will help us a lot this season."
Parris is expected to anchor a very talented Mesa High School lineup this season that should have every opportunity to compete for a 6A State Championship. Although the program suffered a significant loss with the transfer of superstar standout guard Kyi Kyi Miles to AZ Compass Prep, Mesa returns plenty of talent and experience. Parris is a major reason for the optimism surrounding the program and its future.
While it is still very early in Parris' recruiting process, he is unquestionably one of Arizona's top young prospects to monitor moving forward.
I will continue to follow his development and college recruitment closely, and bring you updates as they begin to unfold. This is definitely one young man on the rise that I intend to watch closely over the next several years.
Arizona Preps Scouting Report: Parris is a long and lengthy post prospect that is very agile, runs the floor very well and can cover a lot of ground with his length and live motor. He looks to block and alter shots around the paint, and keeps balls in play for his team to start their fast break. A good finisher around the basket that will develop over time as he get s physically stronger and matures. He has good low-post footwork that is still developing, but has good hands and feet for his size. He also has a soft touch from the perimeter that should only continue to improve with more development and touches. Has serious upside for the future. While it is still early for the 2029 Class, this young man has a very bright future ahead of him and has the potential to develop into a serious Division-I prospect over time.
