Dewey Henry is on the move. One of Arizona’s top 2028 guard prospects, the 6-foot-1 rising junior point guard has transferred from Ironwood High School to the new Elite Sports Academy in the Valley, giving the new prep program a major addition as it looks to establish itself on the Arizona basketball scene. Henry is coming off an outstanding spring and summer, in which he proved that he belongs among the top guards in the West in the 2028 class. While playing for the Phoenix United 16U program on the Nike EYBL circuit, Henry was absolutely terrific throughout the summer, helping lead his team to an undefeated record and an opportunity to compete at the prestigious Nike Peach Jam.
While Phoenix United featured a very talented roster, Henry stood out in a major way. He averaged better than 30 points per game throughout the summer and produced the best individual summer performance that I personally witnessed this year. What made his performance even more impressive was that Henry accomplished it while playing through an injured leg that he suffered during the spring. He battled through the injury throughout the spring and summer, and it did very little to slow him down. Henry was simply unguardable for long stretches.
He is an explosive scorer off the dribble with excellent quickness and an advanced ability to create opportunities for himself. Henry possesses a tremendous jump shot with unlimited range and a very quick release. He has an excellent ability to get to his spots on the floor and can make shots from just about anywhere on the court. While his ability to score the basketball immediately stands out, Henry is much more than simply a scorer. He is a true point guard and floor general who enjoys getting his teammates involved and creating opportunities for others. His advanced offensive skill set makes him extremely difficult to defend one-on-one, as he can beat defenders off the dribble, create separation for his jump shot and make plays for teammates when defenses collapse on him.
Ultimately, Henry is also a winner. He competes hard and does what is necessary to help his team win, something he demonstrated throughout an impressive spring and summer with Phoenix United.
Henry is still a young prospect and has two years remaining in his high school career, but he has already established himself as one of the elite prospects in Arizona’s 2028 class. His performance this spring and summer also proved that he should be regarded among the top guards in the West for the class.
While Henry has yet to receive his first NCAA Division-I scholarship offer, there is little question in my mind that he is a Division-I prospect. I am a big fan of this young man’s game and believe he has the ability to eventually play at a very high level in college.
His move to Elite Sports Academy is a significant addition for a new prep program looking to make its mark in the Valley. Adding one of Arizona’s premier young point guards gives the program an excellent building block and a player capable of attracting plenty of attention from college coaches.
For Ironwood, Henry’s departure is a significant loss. For Elite Sports Academy, his arrival is a major addition.
I expect Henry to have an excellent career at Elite Sports Academy and believe his college recruitment will eventually take off as more Division-I programs become familiar with his talent and production.
