In case you missed it, Hillcrest Prep Academy 6-foot-9 prep forward Cameron Benford has given a verbal pledge to play for IPFW next fall. At IPFW, Benford will play for head coach Jason Gardner, a former standout performer for the University of Arizona.
A native of Seattle, Washington where he attended Skyline High School, Benford journeyed to the state of Arizona this season to play for Hillcrest Prep's post-graduate team, in an attempt to improve his college recruitment and develop for the collegiate level.
Benford recently became Hillcrest's first post-grad prospect to give a verbal commitment this season.
Benford is a relative of North Texas head coach Tony Benford.
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: Benford is a nice post talent with very good hands and a knack for the basketball. He always seems to be around the ball, and is an excellent finisher around the basket. Attempts to dunk anything inside or near the paint - a nice asset as a post player. A very active rebounder and a very good offensive rebounder. A good shotblocker. Runs the floor hard and finishes in transition. Has good low post footwork and solid post moves, but is still a work in progress. Has good upside as a player and good potential for the future. A nice sleeper prospect.
