With the tremendous development of the NCAA Transfer Portal over the past few years, many of Arizona's top-rated prospects have had to take different routes to get the opportunity to reach their desired Division-I level. One of these prospects, former Dream City Christian Prep 6-foot-7 junior college freshman wing Travis Torain (2024 Class), was among the very best available prospects in the 2024 class, before he decided to go the juco route, in an attempt to improve his college recruitment. After deciding to go to Panola College (TX) for a freshman season this year, Torain has now landed at a Division-I program, as he has signed a national letter of intent with Austin Peay State University and their basketball program.
This season @ Panola College, Torain started 22-of-36 games during his freshman season, and averaged 9.3 points and 5 rebounds per game, while making (71) three-pointers on the season. Torain scored double figures (15) times this season, with a season-high 31 points in just his third-career game against No. 1 South Plains College. Torain led Panola to a Region 14 Championship and a Final Four appearance in the NJCAA National Tournament this season.
Torain previously held offers on the table from Seton Hall, Arizona State, Oakland, UC San Diego and San Jose State.
Torain previously suffered an injury during the 2022 summer season, but he completely recovered and had a breakout season for himself as a junior with Dream City Christian. He played a much bigger role during his senior season for Dream City Head Coach Kyle Weaver and his coaching staff.
This is an excellent story of hard work and perseverance by Torain, as he is now a role model for the new era of high school and prep school basketball recruiting around the country. Congratulations to Torain and his family and the Dream City Christian Prep basketball program on another commitment from their program.
Arizona Preps Scouting Report: Torain is a long, rangy wing prospect with an advanced offensive skillset. He has excellent versatility as a bigger wing prospect, as a result of his extreme length and ability to shoot and handle the basketball. He has nice range on his shot and good size as a shooter. He is fundamentally sound and has a high skill level. He is also a solid defender but does need to play with a consistent motor to maximize his potential as a player. A solid rebounder. Torain is a good overall sleeper prospect for the right college fit for himself. He is battle tested as a player, and can play immediately, for the right level and college fit.
