One of Arizona’s Premier Perimeter Shooters Makes His Division-I College Decision
Dream City Christian Prep’s 6-foot-4 senior guard Mick Riordan announced his commitment to Utah Tech University last week, giving Trailblazers Head Coach Jon Judkins another promising addition to his 2027 recruiting class. Riordan, a skilled combo-guard from the 2027 Class, has developed a reputation as one of Arizona’s premier perimeter shooters. His exceptional shooting range, offensive creativity, basketball intelligence and ability to deliver in pressure situations have made him a recognizable prospect throughout the state’s basketball community.
His commitment represents another important achievement in a basketball journey that has included stops at Boulder Creek High School, St. Mary’s High School and, most recently, Dream City Christian Prep. For Riordan, the opportunity to continue his basketball career at the NCAA Division-I level represents the reward for years of dedication and development. For Utah Tech, the addition of Riordan provides the program with a talented perimeter prospect who possesses the ability to stretch defenses and create offensive opportunities.
Riordan first began establishing his reputation while competing at Boulder Creek High School, where his perimeter shooting ability and offensive skills attracted attention throughout Arizona’s basketball community. His development continued after transferring to St. Mary’s High School, where he competed against some of Arizona’s premier high school programs. During his time with the Knights, Riordan became known for his ability to make difficult perimeter shots, particularly from well beyond the three-point line.
One of the most memorable moments of his high school career came against Millennium High School, when he connected on a remarkable 35-foot buzzer-beating three-pointer. The spectacular shot drew national attention and was featured on ESPN’s SportsCenter, providing Riordan with a memorable highlight and demonstrating his exceptional shooting range. The ability to make shots from such extraordinary distances has become one of the defining characteristics of his offensive game. However, Riordan’s abilities extend beyond perimeter shooting.
At 6-foot-4, he possesses the size and skill to operate at either guard position. His ball-handling ability, court awareness and offensive versatility allow him to create opportunities for himself and his teammates. His development as a complete offensive player has helped him establish himself as a legitimate Division-I prospect.
Following his time at St. Mary’s, Riordan elected to transfer to Dream City Christian Prep for his senior season. The move provided an opportunity to continue developing his game, while competing within Arizona’s nationally recognized prep basketball environment. Dream City Christian Prep has established itself as a destination for talented basketball prospects seeking competitive opportunities and increased exposure to college basketball programs. For Riordan, the move represents another important stage in his preparation for the collegiate level.
His ability to shoot the basketball from considerable distances should provide Dream City with an important offensive weapon during the 2026–27 season. As he continues preparing for college basketball, Riordan will also have opportunities to improve his physical strength, defensive consistency and overall leadership. His experience competing at multiple Arizona basketball programs has provided valuable exposure to different styles of play and competitive environments.
Riordan’s commitment provides Utah Tech with a skilled perimeter prospect capable of contributing to the program’s future offensive development. The Trailblazers compete in the Big Sky Conference after transitioning from the Western Athletic Conference in July 2026. Veteran head coach Jon Judkins enters his 22nd season leading Utah Tech’s basketball program in 2026–27, bringing extensive experience developing collegiate basketball players. Judkins was named the 2026 WAC Coach of the Year after guiding Utah Tech to a 19-win season, the program’s most victories during its Division-I era.
Riordan’s exceptional perimeter shooting ability could make him an intriguing addition to the program. In today’s college basketball environment, guards who can consistently stretch defenses with deep perimeter shooting are especially valuable. Riordan possesses that ability. His shooting range forces opposing defenders to extend their coverage well beyond the traditional three-point line, potentially creating additional opportunities for teammates. As he continues improving his strength and developing his overall game, Riordan could become a valuable contributor within Utah Tech’s offensive system.
Riordan’s decision represents another significant Division I commitment for Arizona’s talented 2027 Class of prospects. The state continues producing college basketball prospects across numerous levels, including major prep school programs and traditional Arizona high school programs. Riordan’s development illustrates the opportunities available to players who continue improving their skills and competing against quality opposition. His journey has included memorable individual performances, competitive high school basketball experiences and significant personal development. Now, that journey will eventually take him to St. George, Utah.
His commitment also comes during an impressive period for Arizona basketball recruiting, with numerous senior prospects announcing their college destinations. For Riordan, however, the announcement represents something particularly meaningful. After years of work, one of Arizona’s most recognizable perimeter shooters has secured an opportunity to continue playing basketball at the Division-I level.
With his recruitment behind him, Riordan can now concentrate on completing his senior season at Dream City Christian Prep. His final year of prep basketball will provide an important opportunity to prepare for the physical and competitive demands of college basketball. Continued development as a ball-handler, playmaker and perimeter defender will be important as he approaches the next stage of his career. However, his exceptional shooting ability already provides him with a valuable skill that should translate to the collegiate level. Few offensive skills are more valuable in today’s game than the ability to consistently make perimeter shots. Riordan has demonstrated that ability throughout his high school basketball career.
His commitment to Utah Tech represents another important milestone in his development, but his basketball journey is far from complete.
Congratulations to Riordan and his family, as well as the Dream City Christian Prep program on another nice commitment for their program from our Arizona Preps' staff.
