Arizona's 2024 Class of girls prospects is very talented, filled with numerous prospects that have already shown Division-I potential. One of the top overall prospects in the class is Xavier Prep's 5-foot-10 junior guard Dominique Nesland. Nesland is quickly climbing up the charts among our player rankings in the class, as she is as skilled and talented as any other prospect in the class. Recently, college programs are beginning to take serious notice of the gifted guard prospect, as she has received numerous offers for herself. Well deserved as Nesland is the real deal.
Currently, Nesland has become one of the hottest 2024 prospects in the West - recently receiving offers from Pacific, Cal Baptist, Navy, Army, Louisiana Monroe and Seattle University. Nesland also has other offers from Bellarmine University and Arizona Christian, to name a couple. She will surely receive numerous Division-I offers this high school season, in preparation for the biggest spring and summer of her young career in 2023. College coaches are now focusing on her class, so she will definitely be in the conversation.
Nesland is a terrific guard prospect with an excellent feel for the game and a high basketball IQ. She has a strong, compact body on her 5-10 frame, and is physical from the guard position, and does not mind physical contact. She is an excellent shooter of the basketball with unlimited range on her shot, and a very quick release on her shot - able to get it off quite well over defenders. She has excellent versatility as a player, and is able to play multiple positions on the court. She will be a combo-guard prospect at the collegiate level, as a result of her play-making skills and ability to score and shoot the basketball. Nesland is a strong driver of the ball and is also a good finisher in the lane, that uses floaters and goes strong to the rim. She can be very crafty in her approach to the game, and as a scorer.
Nesland is fundamentally sound. A very good ball handler that can create her own shot, and she is also a very good passer that sees the floor. A strong and active rebounder from the guard position, Nesland is also very good defensively, and plays passing lanes. She is also a good one-one-defender, and is working hard on her quickness to defend quicker guards at the collegiate level.
Nesland has been a starter for terrific Head Coach Jennifer Gillom since entering high school, and had a strong freshman season. As a sophomore she broke out - averaging 13.8 points, 4.4 assists, 5.6 rebounds and an impressive 3.2 steals per/game. Nesland will have a big junior season, and should raise these numbers considerably. She is already a "stat-sheet stuffer," but should pick up her scoring numbers nicely this season, as she has developed much since her sophomore season, and continues to work hard. Nesland has impressive work ethic and works tirelessly on her craft.
Nesland will look to lead her Xavier program to a 6A State Championship this high school season, after leading them to the 6A State Semi-Finals last season - falling to Perry in the 6A Semi's. Xavier returns much of their entire team this high school, as they only lost one player to graduation from a year ago. Xavier is absolutely loaded this season, in comparison to other programs, as the program went young several years ago and now will again reap the rewards of their loads of experience.
I will continue to follow Nesland and her Xavier program closely this season, and bring you any more recruiting updates as they continue to develop for her.
