Arizona’s 2014 class of girl's prospects is a solid class of players for college programs to take a strong look at. While the class is not as loaded as the previous 2013 class of girl's prospects, the class is beginning to define itself a great deal this off-season. One of the top prospects in the class is now off the recruiting board, as she has found a program that peeked her interest enough for her to give an early verbal commitment.
Desert Vista High School’s talented 5-foot-7 rising senior point guard Emily Wolph is regarded as the state's top pure point guard prospect. After mulling over her recruiting options this spring, Wolph has decided to give a verbal commitment to Santa Clara University and head coach Jennifer Mountain and her women's basketball staff.
Wolph chose Santa Clara over interest from such programs as Loyola Marymount, Princeton, San Francisco and Northern Arizona. Santa Clara was Wolph's early favorite during the high school season, and reeled in the talented point guard prospect.
After a strong sophomore season and a strong spring and summer on the club circuit in 2012 with her club program the Arizona Elite, Wolph emerged as one of the top overall prospects in the class.
As a junior, Wolph helped lead a talented Desert Vista HS team to an 18-11 overall record on the season, while averaging 14.5 points, 1.9 assists and 2.3 steals per/contest. Wolph had a high scoring game this season of 29 points in a big blowout win over Marcos De Niza HS.
Wolph is also a very good student and carries a 3.5 CUM GPA. Wolph plans to continue to play this summer with her club program, the Arizona Elite.
Congratulations to Emily on this tremendous accomplishment for her and her family, as she prepares for her senior season at Desert Vista.
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: Wolph is a heady floor general prospect with good overall toughness as a player. She is a slick ball handler with excellent quickness that pushes the basketball up the floor to the open teammate. She sees the floor very well and makes her team go, as she is an aggressive point guard that puts maximum pressure on opposing defenses – enjoying getting into the lane and finishing plays over bigger defenders. She is at her best scoring the basketball, as she is a good shooter of the basketball with very good range on her shot from three-point distance. Wolph is also a very good defender with good anticipation, quick hands and nice lateral quickness.
