Last week was a major week for the Notre Dame Prep basketball program, as almost the unthinkable took place. News quickly spread of the departure of highly successful Head Coach Luke DallaRiva, as he and the program parted ways. While it has still been undisclosed as to the reasons for DallaRiva's departure from the program, especially after a very successful career at the helm by DallaRiva, the ripple effect of the fire has the program now in complete disarray and jeopardy. Now, add to it the transfer of one of the program's very best players, as sharp-shooting 6-foot-1, 170-pound junior guard Brennan Peterson has announced his decision to transfer to local Dream City Christian Prep, one of the top prep programs in the country.
For Peterson, his father advised me that this decision to leave for Dream City was not a result of what is taking place now with the program, but rather had been in the works for a couple years now. The Peterson family has had a close personal relationship with the staff at Dream City Christian Prep now for some time. After the departure of DallaRiva now from the program, the move for Peterson now really makes sense, as he will now look to raise his college recruitment at Dream City.
Peterson's longtime teammate Bryce Quinet has recently seen a significant improvement in his college recruitment. Quinet's future at the Notre Dame Prep program is still in question as well.
Peterson had an excellent high school career for himself at Notre Dame Prep. Upon entering the high school ranks as a top-rated middle school prospect three years ago, Peterson produced at a very high level throughout his high school career. The combination of Peterson, junior guard Bryce Quinet and gifted senior guard Anthony Batson became an absolute force for the Notre Dame Prep program. Peterson was very consistent in his performances in all (3) seasons at Notre Dame Prep, as he averaged strong career numbers of 15.7 points, 3.9 assists and 2.3 rebounds per/game.
As a college prospect, Peterson is a strong floor general with an excellent feel for the game and a unique shooting prowess. He is a heady floor general that commands presence on the basketball court, is very efficient in his approach to the game and make plays for himself and his teammates consistently. Peterson reminds me of a young John Stockton, as he has an excellent handle of the basketball, sets up his teammates for scoring opportunities and makes shots at a high and consistent level. He is a specialist as a shooter - something all college programs need to be successful. He is very poised as a player, and nothing seems to rattle him on or off the floor. He is also a good defender with quick hands, and understand angles on the floor. He is fundamentally sound and makes up for his lack of size with a high basketball IQ.
I want to personally wish good luck to Brennan Peterson in his future at Dream City Christian Prep, where he will play with some of the nation's top talent. He is well deserving of much more college recruitment and hopefully this move benefits him in his pursuit.
