Brophy Prep (12-7) is one of the state's top 6A programs again, and this year's team will be very tough to beat down the stretch and n the Open Division State Playoffs. Brophy is well coached by Matt Hooten and his staff, and are talented and well experienced at every position on the floor. This year's team has their best chance in years to win a 6A State Championship and/or an Open Division State Championship, as they will give every opponent all they can handle. The program received a nice shot in the arm this high school basketball season when 6-foot-3 senior guard Ayden Madi returned to the Brophy Prep lineup. After missing his junior season due to a back injury, Madi has returned this season, and has provided this year's Brophy team with excellent toughness and versatility at the guard position. Madi is back to full form and will help this Brophy team a great deal, as they finish the season and head toward the state playoffs.
Ayden Madi is exactly what this Brophy Prep team needed, as he has now taken over some of the point guard duties for Brophy Prep, while providing excellent versatility in the backcourt for Brophy Prep. Early in the season, Brophy had previously been utilizing the perimeter skills of sharp-shooting 6-foot-4 senior guard Ryan Burbach (Cornell Signee) and 6-foot-4 junior Daylen Sharper to also handle the point guard responsibilities for the team, but now that Madi is back to full form, he has been able to handle the point guard position for the team also, which has allowed Burbach and Sharper to play multiple positions for the team as well. Brophy now has excellent versatility in their backcourt, as several players can play multiple positions for this team, offensively and defensively.
Madi is putting together a nice senior season for one of the sate's top programs. In a big rivalry match-up last week with St. Mary's High School, Madi actually took over the game in the third period for Brophy Prep, and was the catalyst for a big Brophy Prep road victory - finishing with a team-high 19 points and 5 rebounds in the victory. Madi made numerous big shots down the stretch for Brophy in a game that required his tough, hard-nosed play. In a loss to #1 ranked Perry HS on Saturday evening, Madi also finished with 15 points and 6 rebounds in a game that Brophy Prep led for much of the game, before losing at home. Madi is providing excellent depth and toughness for this Brophy group, that I believe will be at their best late in the season.
Madi is one of the top overall guard prospects in Arizona's 2025 Class, and was expected to have a strong junior season for himself and the Brophy Prep team, before suffering a season-ending back injury last year. Madi is the heart and soul of the Brophy team, as he is a fierce competitor and is very tough mentally and physically. Madi often guards the opposing team's best offensive player, and also consistently applies pressure on defenses with his ability to drive the ball into the lane and finish in and around the paint. He has a good mid-range game and also is a good three-point shooter as well - all aspects of the game that has really helped this year's Brophy Prep team.
Madi is currently focused on helping his Brophy Prep program to an excellent finish this high school season, but he is also a guard prospect that will soon begin to again also focus on his college recruitment for the future as well. Madi is a guard prospect that will be able to play immediately at the right college fit, as he is very tough and is an excellent competitor. He is also a winner and does the intangibles to help his team win - a very nice attribute for any college prospect to have. His college recruitment should begin to take shape this spring.
I will continue to watch Madi and his Brophy Prep team closely, as they finish the season very strong. Brophy Prep has one of the toughest season schedules in the state. They will face top-rated Millennium High School on the road on Tuesday (1/28) and also again on 2/12. They conclude the season with games against Desert Vista (2/4) and Sunnyslope (2/7).
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: Madi is a good looking college prospect with excellent toughness and is a true competitor. He is a combo-guard prospect with a good overall feel for the game. He is capable of playing both guard positions on the floor, but is at his best as a scorer, where he is able to make shots from the perimeter and also drive hard to the basket and finish in the lane. He relishes physical contact, and does not mind giving up his body to win games, as he plays with a purpose. He has a very good mid-range game and can post up nicely against smaller guards. He is a good ball handler and passer that sees the floor, and pushes the ball up the court. He is an active rebounder for his size and rebounds outside of his area on the floor. He is a lock-down defender that competes hard and has quick hands, and is able to play passing lanes. Also an excellent student-athlete and high academic performer.
