Dobson versus Churchill (Oregon) Game Recap Game 4 on the day figured to be very exciting, as Dobson boasted three different Division-I players, and Churchill has the fastest team in the event – playing with four fast guards and one fast big, similar to what Cesar Chavez HS does. The game started fast paced like the Suns used to do with “7 seconds or less.”  The game was extremely fun to watch for any avid basketball fan.  6-foot-5 junior SG Ryan Richardson continued his hot shooting with 5 quick points, and 6-foot-5 senior SG Jaron Hopkins (Univ. of Colorado signee) also scored 5 points for himself. Gilbert vs. Mercer Island (WA) Game Recap The first game of day 3 started with a must see match-up between big 6-foot-8 sophomore center Truman Moore from Gilbert HS versus 6-foot-8 senior center Joe Rasmussen from Mercer Island HS.  Joe is the son of Blair Rasmussen from the Denver Nuggets (NBA), and is on his way to Seattle-Pacific University next year. Desert Vista vs Red Mountain Game Recap The Red Mountain Wolves matched up against the Desert Vista Thunder in this exciting game.  Early on, Red Mountain’s Derek Rojas and Desert Vista’s Greg Carter came out scoring.  Rojas hit (3) three-pointers in the first four minutes, while Carter had one long range shot and 7 points in the same amount of time.  Desert Vista called their first timeout at the 11 minute mark of the first half, down 14-11. Corona del Sol vs Gilbert Christian (GC) Game Recap This game was an interesting battle of a division-I power versus a division-III power. Both teams only had one loss coming into the game.  Both teams also boasted star players on their respective teams, as you had 6-foot-3 junior point guard Casey Benson for Corona versus the star junior duo of 6-foot-7 forward Sam Jones and 6-foot-3 guard prospect Roberto Reyes of Gilbert-Christian HS. Arcadia vs Centennial Game Recap The game which would crown the consolation champion was a matchup between Arcadia and Centennial.  Arcadia was led by the second leading scorer of the tournament, 6-foot-1 junior Calvin Outlaw, who was averaging 28.5 points per/game coming in.  Centennial had a much more balanced attack, with multiple guys who could score. Arcadia vs Fountain Hills Game Recap The first game in day two of the Horizon Tournament had Arcadia (5-9) matching up with Fountain Hills (2-6).  With each team coming off of a loss, this was expected to be a show of desperate teams. Fountain Hills came out in a full-court press. This forced Arcadia to turn the ball over and Fountain Hills did what they do best, scoring off of these turnovers.  A 10-0 Falcons run helped give them some confidence. Arcadia vs Marcos Game Recap The first game of the tournament included some great players on both teams.  6-foot-4 senior wing Richaud Gittens (Weber State signee) was hoping to lead his Padres past the Titans of Arcadia High School (5-8), and their dynamic scorer, 6-foot-1 junior guard Calvin Outlaw, in what promised to be a shootout. This girl’s matchup was a good test for Chaparral High School (4-8) who had hoped to stay hot, following their Friday night win over Mountain Ridge HS.  Xavier College Prep (9-3) came into this game with a favorable size matchup – hoping that would make a difference. The Gilbert Tigers (9-2) hosted the Red Mountain Mountain Lions (9-3) in what was a great matchup. Gilbert was without their dominant post presence inside, 6-foot-8 sophomore Truman Moore, which presented them with a big challenge in this game.  In his absence, 6-foot-3 junior forward Eric Mosely started for Gilbert. This matchup between the Pinnacle and Chaparral girls was bound to be a fast-paced game.  From the opening tip, that is exactly what it was as both teams came out shooting and hitting. Skilled 6-foot-1 senior guard Sydney Wiese (Oregon State signee) for Pinnacle hit two threes in the first three minutes to set the tone.  In a back and forth game, Wiese came out aggressive – scoring 13 big points in the quarter.
