Sunnyslope High School’s superb 6-foot-3 senior guard Sammy Thompkins recently earned this year’s Tournament Most Valuable Player Award at the Arizona Preps Fall Showcase – suggesting that he will have a huge senior season for the Vikings. Recent Arizona State commit, 2017 stud prospect Markus Howard of Perry High School is coming off a tremendous freshman season – leading his team to a strong 26-6 overall record on the season, and a Division-I state semi-final playoffs berth.  Markus would average an impressive 23 points, 2.3 assists and 3.1 rebounds per/game.  Markus was unguardable at times this high school season, as he went on numerous scoring outbursts against much older competition. This weekend ArizonaVarsity attended Anthony Ray’s 16th Annual Arizona Preps Fall Showcase at Sandra Day O’Connor in Phoenix (Ariz.). The showcase had over 100 players in attendance from all over the state. Each player played in two games plus an optional dunk contest, which was won by Dawson Stevenson of Sedona Red Rock. Here were the top 25 players at the event based on their performance. 2015 6-foot-2 CG Sammy Barnes-Thompkins attends Sunnyslope.
