Gilbert Christian High School’s new transfer, 6-foot-8 rising junior post Mitch Lightfoot is beginning to generate loads of division-I interest for himself, and this week he received two big scholarship offers for himself.  While already possessing offers, this week Lightfoot brought in offers from two high-major division-I programs. Lightfoot received offers this week from the Arizona State Sun Devils, a member of the PAC-12 Conference, and Creighton University, a high major program in a mid-major conference.  Both programs have extended offers to the talented young prospect, who is beginning to generate a lot of interest. The Pangos Sweet 16 NCAA-certified basketball event came to a close on Sunday with many of the teams from this year’s event already heading back home.  However there were still many teams in participation on Sunday – competing for tournament titles and others simply still playing, as a result of strong performances throughout the event.  Our Arizona Preps staff stayed for the conclusion of the tournament – making for a long drive home late at night, but it was well-worth the effort. On Friday, day one of this year’s Pangos Sweet 16 basketball tournament took place at several different locations in Los Angeles, CA.  Our Arizona Preps’ staff was on hand for much of the day’s action at Cabrillo High School as many of the top 16U and 17U teams in the West faced off with one another in front of a large number of college coaches in attendance. One prospect that has emerged in Arizona’s 2015 class since the end to the high school season has been Perry High School’s 6-foot-4 rising senior guard prospect Coby De Laveaga.  The son of former basketball standout Steve De Laveaga and the nephew of legendary coach and player, Jeff De Laveaga, this young man has developed at his own pace, but is now beginning to come into his own. The Arizona Magic Elite 17U girls traveled over the weekend to the state of Oregon to participate in the Oregon Trail Classic, an NCAA certified event that was held during the July evaluation period.  The team participated in the top division of the event and finished with a 3-2 overall record in the tournament and received loads of exposure from college coaches. Sierra Linda High School’s skilled 5-foot-7 senior guard Janessa Aukward has found a college home for herself and it is with a strong women’s basketball program that recently won a national championship. Recently, Aukward signed a national letter of intent with Mesa Junior College.  The Jackrabbits won this year’s Division-II National Championship and have one of the strongest women’s junior college basketball programs in the country. The annual Reebok Breakout Camp, held in Philadelphia, PA from July 8-11, during the NCAA certified NCAA Evaluation period, begins today and there will be two Arizona prospects in attendance for this week’s camp.
