One of the elite young prospects in America resides right here in the state of Arizona. The state of Arizona has consistently produced elite young prospects over time, and now we have another one. Hillcrest Prep's uniquely talented 6-foot-11 freshman prospect Adrien Isaac Porras has consistently received rave reviews for some time now, since before entering the high school ranks. The large young post prospect is a rare talent and now college programs are taking notice, early in the recruiting process, for the opportunity to land this young man in the future.
Recently, Porras received his second Division-I offer for himself and it was a big one - an offer that will certainly shape his future college recruitment. Porras has seen his college recruitment kick off with a bang, as he recently received his first offer from Grand Canyon University, and now has also received an offer from the University of Kansas Jayhawks. The Kansas offer will certainly set the tone for Porras' college recruitment going forward, as other Division-I college programs look to line up for Porras over the next few years.
Porras is a unique talent and a unicorn of sorts, as he has always been much, much larger than his competition - looking out of place against much smaller and lesser competition. He has grown physically, so fast, that he will still need to catch up to his size over time, and he will. Over time, Porras will continue to grow physically a great deal and will fill into his long thin frame, getting much stronger and more athletic. He is absolutely dominant at his age group, and as he matures, he should begin to dominate older competition as well, as he has broad shoulders and a good wingspan on a large frame. The future is unusually bright for this young man and college programs will only continue to take notice, which should make for a recruiting frenzy over time.
Porras is a sure-fire future NBA prospect already. While I rarely would say something like this, or this early in the process about a young prospect, this is a sheer fact for Porras, as he is so talented and large at such a young age. He has very good mobility and versatility already as a young prospect. He runs the floor like a guard, handles the ball, passes very well and has a good overall feel. There is not much Porras cannot do already in his skillset, leaving for a very high ceiling in his future. A left-hander, Porras has a soft touch from the perimeter, although he has not needed to use it much, as he is able to dominate around the basket. Now at Hillcrest Prep and playing against older competition, Porras is able to stretch and showcase his versatility. As he continues to mature physically, he will become a serious problem for any age group, as he is simply a unique talent, unlike many we have ever seen.
"Porras is the best big I have ever seen in person at his age," said Hillcrest Prep Director Nick Weaver. "Better than (DeAndre) Ayton. Not even close. Jimmy (Scroggins) has got his game right - he plays so hard."
Porras is not only a unicorn physically and as a pure talent, he has a leg up on his competition, as he has trained hard for many years with his personal trainer and mentor Jimmy Scroggins. Scroggins is one of the top basketball trainers in the state, and is a former standout ball player himself, a graduate and top performer at North High School, where he won state championships. Scroggins has passed on his discipline and dedication to his craft to Porras, and it has helped to define and develop Porras a great deal. Porras cant lose and has a very bright future ahead of himself.
Parras will play this spring and summer on the Puma Pro16U club circuit with The Hill Elite, Hillcrest Prep's club program.
Parras is also an excellent student as well and carries a 4.0 CUM GPA. I will continue to follow Porras closely over time, as he continues to develop as a player and as a college prospect.
