Glendale Community College (14-4) is currently one of the hottest Division-II college programs in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) - winners of their last (3) games on the season, and also posting some strong numbers on the season. After having a strong freshman campaign, 5-foot-11 sophomore guard Kenny White has returned this year for legendary Head Coach Ken Carrillo, and is having a major breakout season. White has been a major reason this season for the program's success this season, as he has been a Team Captain and currently ranks fifth in the conference in scoring - having his best season of his young college career.
White is currently averaging impressive numbers as he has posted 17.8 points per game this season. Beyond his scoring, he’s contributing 3.7 assists and 2.2 rebounds per game, while shooting 47% from the field. White is having his best season to date, and he has worked hard to become the player he has become today.
White’s journey is a testament to hard work. Coming from a loaded St. Mary’s High School basketball program in Phoenix, where he played for Head Coach Damin Lopez, he chose Glendale CC to continue developing his game. Under the strong guidance of Coach Ken Carrillo, a longtime Division-I coach and one of the top coaches in the conference, White has flourished.
Known as a skilled but smaller combo-guard, White is at his best at the point, but can play both guard positions. He has a nice shooting touch with range, but he’s even more effective off the dribble - creating plays for himself and his teammates. As a left-hander with a slightly unorthodox but crafty style, he can finish at the rim and handle defensive pressure well.
Currently, Glendale Community College stands at 14-4, one of the hottest Division-II programs in the ACCAC with three consecutive wins. White’s leadership has been a big part of that success. As we head into the second half of the junior college season, his performance is drawing the attention of several smaller college programs. With his experience and toughness, he’s poised to be an immediate impact player at the next level.
Kenny White is a great role model for Arizona high school players who might not have been heavily recruited. He’s shown that with hard work and a strong work ethic, the junior college route can lead to new opportunities. His journey at Glendale CC is just the beginning of what promises to be a bright future for him.
