A member of Arizona's 2017 class that has emerged this fall is Casa Grande Union High School's talented 6-foot-3 senior guard Jacob Johnson. Johnson has proved this fall in several events that he is worthy of better college recruitment, as he looks to be prepared to have a big senior season for high school program.
Related to former NBA player and Suns announcer Eddie Johnson, Jacob is a skilled guard prospect with a good overall feel for the game and a nice approach to the game. Being around the game of basketball all of his life, this young man loves the game of basketball and it shows in his ability to play. He takes the game very serious and has a lot of self-confidence in his ability to play the game at a high level - a nice attribute for Johnson.
Johnson has very good size for the point guard position, and is also capable of playing as a combo-guard as a result of his ability to shoot and score the basketball. He has a good feel for the game also, and has a good understanding of when the score or set up teammates on the floor. He knows how to run a team very well and also has good leadership qualities. He is an effective ball handler and passer and is simply a solid all-around guard prospect for a good smaller college program.
Johnson is set to put up big numbers this year for Casa Grande HS, where he will be counted on to do much this season. I look for him to rank among the top all-around performers this season, as he should be consistent in his performance all season long.
Johnson is a very good sleeper guard prospect in Arizona's 2017 class and is worthy of serious recruiting attention this spring. He is also a very good student, and is already a full academic qualifier.
I will continue to follow Johnson as a player all season long, and look for him to have a great senior season. We will bring you any updates on Johnson throughout the high school season and into the spring recruiting period.
