Yavapai College 7-foot, 235-pound sophomore post Ryan Vischer has quietly positioned himself as one of the top available junior college post prospects in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC), and is one of the more intriguing available juco big men in the West. While his statistics may not immediately jump off the page, evaluating Vischer strictly by numbers would be a mistake. His value lies in his physical tools, long-term upside, and the development he has shown over time. After mulling over his recruiting options for himself, Vischer has decided give a verbal commitment and sign with Roosevelt University, a strong Division-II program located in Chicago, Illinois.
Standing at a legitimate 7 feet tall with a strong 235-pound frame, Vischer possesses the kind of size that simply cannot be taught - making him an increasingly rare commodity in today’s game. The addition of Vischer is a nice get for the Roosevelt coaching staff.
Vischer’s journey has not been without adversity. After graduating from high school, he spent time developing his game and also endured a medical redshirt season due to a foot fracture. That injury, along with earlier setbacks, slowed his development early in his career. However, over the past two years at Yavapai, he has worked diligently to regain his health and elevate his game under the leadership of hard-working a dedicated Head Coach Kevon Davis. Now fully healthy, Vischer is beginning to show strong signs of the player many believed he could become.
Before arriving at Yavapai, Vischer competed for the highly regarded PHH Prep program, one of Arizona’s premier prep programs known for developing loads of Division-I college talent. That experience helped lay the foundation for his continued growth at the junior college level.
Vischer received significant interest from Division-II programs, along with some emerging interest at the Division-I level. With two years of eligibility remaining, he offers Roosevelt University immediate frontcourt depth and long-term developmental upside. He will also join Seton Catholic's sharp-shooting senior guard KJ Fauske at Roosevelt University. Fauske signed with the program this high school season.
Academically, Vischer is also a strong qualifier, carrying a 3.5 CUM GPA.
Congratulations to Ryan and his father Mike Vischer on this commitment and signing, as well as Kevon Davis and the Yavapai coaching staff on this accomplishment.
Arizona Preps Scouting Report: Ryan Vischer is a legitimate 7-foot prospect with excellent length of body and a willingness to run the floor hard and finish strong at the rim, in the half court set or while in transition. He brings a skill-set that translates well to the next level. He is an active rim protector with the ability to block and alter shots defensively. His size and length allow him to be an effective rebounder on both ends of the floor, and he finishes well around the basket. He understands his role, plays within himself, and continues to improve his consistency with extended minutes and opportunities. Vischer has what you cannot teach, as a result of his extreme size and length. He really wants to be a player and has worked very hard to get stronger physically over time. He has a bright future ahead of him and is an immediate impact performer for Roosevelt University (IL). He has tremendous upside still as a player, and his best years are still ahead of him.
