After consistently making loads of noise in the state of Arizona throughout his high school career, now Prescott High School's 5-foot-11 senior PG Uriah Tenette (UCSD signee) has become a household name among the basketball circles nationally. After last week's amazing 54-point performance in his team's huge 93-87 overtime win over Chatsworth High School (CA) in the Damien Classic, Tenette raised major eyebrows throughout the country after his extreme scoring outburst and performance. The leading scorer in the state of Arizona as a junior, Tenette is now on completely another level and it is very well deserved.
Northern Arizona basketball has been on the rise now for many years. Through the extreme hard- working efforts of our Arizona Preps' staff in the region, many prospects have gained maximum exposure that the area previously did not have. The top prospect to come out of this region, since we began focusing on the area, is and will be Uriah Tenette. Tenette will become the program's all-time scoring leader when he is done with his playing career this season. After his recent exploits in a head-to-head match-up with one of the nation's top overall prospects, 5-star 6-foot-6 junior guard Alijah Arenas, who also finished with 56 points of his own, he will now be remembered nationally, as well as locally, for a tremendous high school career and also an epic and memorable individual performance.
In the game, Tenette was absolutely on fire, as he scored from all (3) levels, and at a high rate. Tenette is a super-athlete with excellent body control and explosiveness off the dribble. With the game in the balance, Tenette scored on almost every trip down the floor for his team - pulling Prescott to the big overtime victory in front of a nice crowd at the Damien Classic in Southern California. In the process, Tenette also displayed his NBA-level athleticism, as he had numerous jaw-dropping one-handed and two-handed dunks in traffic and over defenders. His performance became the hottest video footage on social media and the internet, and also reached ESPN. Everyone knows this tremendous Northern Arizona talent now - he has changed the game.
Last season, Tenette led the state in scoring with an eye-popping 31.4 points per/game scoring average. He is back to his ways again this season, as he is currently averaging tremendous overall numbers during his senior season - 29.4 points, 7 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 2.6 steals per/contest. Tenette is among the very best basketball players in America - no longer just the best player in Northern Arizona.
I have been speaking about the extreme talent of this young man for several years now, so I was extremely proud of him and for his family, as a result of his recent national success. Many college coaches and scouts passed on him as a prospect throughout the recruiting process, but I always stayed firm in my commitment to his superior individual talent. After watching him win our Arizona Preps Northern Arizona Showcase slam-dunk contest a couple years ago in fine fashion, I figured it would become just a matter of time, before everyone would get to appreciate this young man's talent, as I have. I had no idea it would happen in the manner that it did last week - no one did. Uriah did. With emotions riding very high for him, as his family is currently facing some adversity, Uriah made a believer out of everyone, especially top-rated Alijah Arenas (son of former NBA star guard Gilbert Arenas). These two will remember this match-up and performance for the rest of their lives, and they will be forever linked.
Tenette has signed to play @ UC-San Diego next fall, and now he has proven himself very worthy of a much higher NIL deal for himself at the school, as he will now bring much more attention to the UCSD basketball program with his national acclaim.
Congratulations to Tenette and his family on this amazing performance, but also on a tremendous high school career that has put Prescott basketball on the map.
