There are still some very good 2016 prospects from the state of Arizona left on the table this spring for college programs to take a hard look at. Some of these prospects have offers on the table and just need to make their college decisions, while for others, they will be looking to maximize their exposure to college coaches this spring while playing again on the spring aau/club circuit.
Here are the top available unsigned players from Arizona's 2016 class of prospects - regardless of position (In no particular order) ...
Malik Ondigo 6-11 SR PF/C Dysart HS - AAU: Arizona Factory
Current offers: Cal Poly, UTEP and NAU
Ondigo (pictured) may have the most upside out of any prospect in the class. Ondigo has improved tremendously since he started playing as a freshman. He has great hands in the post and a great back-to-the-basket game. Able to get himself in the right situation in the post to score. Runs floor very well for a big. Active on the offensive/defensive glass, and is a very good shot-blocker due to good defensive reads and pure length. A very good free-throw shooter. Most likely will go to a prep school and become a 2017 prospect, since he is very young for his grade.
Michael Bibby Jr. 6-1 SR PG Shadow Mountain HS
Current offers: Memphis, USC, Cal Poly and UTEP
A spitting image of his dad, Mike Bibby Sr., Bibby Jr. plays just like him, but with less explosiveness. Bibby Jr. leads by example and has his teammates respect. His teammates listen to him due to his ability to lead/run a team. Bibby is a knock-down shooter and is very shifty off the dribble, and can get to the hole with ease. Bibby is a seasoned vet of sorts, as he plays the game very cool, calm and collected. Bibby also can lock up on the defensive end, as he is very active with his feet and keeps his hands up in the passing lanes to get steals and create for himself and his teammates. It is still very unclear as to what Bibby will do this spring.
J.J. Rhymes 6-3 SR SG Shadow Mountain HS
Current offers: Has cut his final list to Grand Canyon, Utah State and Murray State
A very physical driver of the basketball. Rhymes has been one of the top players in the state of Arizona since his freshman season. He possesses a college-ready frame right now. Rhymes gets into the lane any time he wants to, due to his pure strength/ability to keep defenders on his hip at all times. He is a solid ball handler, but mostly gets by defenders, due to his quick first step that he possesses. He is an honest shooter, as he can knock down shots if he is left open from the 3-point line and in, but prefers to attack the basket. Rhymes is very athletic, as he has had several highlight-reel dunks this season in transition, off of the dribble and in fast-break settings. A solid free-throw shooter as well. He currently has a final 3 list of GCU, Utah State and Murray State.
Jay Green 6-5 SR PG/SG/SF Mountain Ridge HS
Previous offers: Cleveland State and New Mexico
Big guard who can play both PG/SG, depending on the situation. Possesses a great frame. A capable shooter from outside. A very athletic guard in transition and off the bounce. Has good vision and gets teammates involved - puts them in the best position to score. Very active on the defensive end as well. Tough kid. Originally from Australia. Will fit great in a structured system. May Prep at Hillcrest in 2017.
Chris Bowling 6-7 SR SF Gilbert HS AAU: Arizona Factory
Current offers: NAU, Texas-Rio Grande Valley, Sam Houston State, Idaho State and Chaminade
Long, wirey guard who has proved he is a winner on aau/club circuit and in the high school ranks. One of the top unsigned shooters on the West Coast. Bowling has had games this season where he has put up very big numbers - primarily off his ability to shoot the basketball. Knows how to post up smaller defenders, and has great touch around the basket. Runs the floor well and finishes great in transition. Alert on the defensive end, gets steals due to his nice length. Needs to add Ibs, but will come when he begins to lift weights. Best overall basketball is well ahead of him.
Gresyn Rogers 6-5 SR SG/SF Casa Grande HS - AAU: Powerhouse Hoops 17U Red
Current Interest: UTEP, Air Force, Dixie State and Point Loma
Rogers is the best sleeper prospect in the state of Arizona. A poor man’s Nick Johnson, Rogers is a very athletic wing who has a knack for scoring the ball from all three levels on the court. Rogers' shot is consistent from the outside, but he is at his best when he creates off the dribble and gets into the lane, where he finishes at a high rate. He is also very athletic, as he gets many dunks off of steals, because is always alert and aware on the defensive end. Great kid. Has a 4.0+ CUM GPA. Very coachable and would be no problem on campus.
