Mesa High School's 6-foot-2 uncommitted senior combo-guard prospect DJ Henderson is a nice talent that should have a big senior season for the Mesa Jackrabbits. Henderson was the top performer from Wednesday evening's scrimmages at Mesa HS.

The 2012-2013 high school basketball season is about to start across the state with either some Thanksgiving tournaments or regular season games on November 20th.  Before the teams officially start, many schools scrimmage other teams to prepare for the long road ahead.

Mesa High School had a scrimmage on Wednesday, November 14th versus Central HS, Brophy Prep and Basha HS.  A very impressive group of players, considering you had 5 different players 6-8 or taller, which is very rare in Arizona.  All 4 teams scrimmaged 2 quarters against each other and rotated between the 2 gyms.

Here were some of the top players from the 4 schools that I saw on the night ...

Mesa Scrimmage Top 2013 Prospects

1. Center  6-9  Maurice Kirby - Basha HS (Virginia Tech signee)

2. Combo-guard  6-1, 165  DJ Henderson -  Mesa HS - MVP of the night.

3. Power Forward 6-9  Tim Kempton - Brophy Prep (Lehigh signee)

4. Shooting guard  6-2  Dan Richards - Mesa HS

5. Combo-guard  5-11  Richard Holt - Basha HS

6. Point guard  5-10  Austin Hammond - Brophy Prep

7. Power Forward  6-8  River White - Brophy Prep

Mesa Scrimmage Top 2014 Prospects

1. Center  6-10  Isaac Allen - Mesa HS

2. Shooting guard  6-0  Christian Harris - Mesa HS

3. Point guard  5-9  Tyrone Ayala - Basha HS  (transfer from Puerto Rico)

4. Shooting guard  6-0  Nathan Markovich - Basha HS

5. Power forward  6-8  Steven Stanley - Brophy Prep

6. Power forward  6-5  Felipe Velazquo - Mesa HS

7. Shooting guard  6-3  Romano Bottini - Brophy Prep

Mesa Scrimmage Top 2015 Prospects

1. Point guard  6-4  Jalen Jenkins - Mesa HS

2. Power Forward  6-6  Famoun Miller - Central HS

3. Shooting guard  6-1  Kale Abbott - Mesa HS

4. Combo-guard  6-2  Sumeet Khara - Mesa HS

Some Quick Hitters:  After watching the scrimmage, it’s easy to see why Mesa HS is rated as one of the favorites to win it all.  Led by DJ Henderson, they will be a handful come February in the playoffs.  Also the arrival of PG Tyrone Ayala from Basha HS will help run the team and off-set the loss of PG Eddie Little, who transfered to North Canyon HS.  Tyrone is a true PG who looks to feed others first and then looks for his shot.  Maurice Kirby also looked like he slimmed down and will be real strong for Basha HS this year.
