As the high school basketball season has come to a close, we now focus on the awards from the 2024-2025 high school basketball season. This year's selection for the 2025 Arizona Preps Coach of the Year honor goes to Head Coach Scott Stansberry of Mesa High School. Stansberry’s exceptional leadership guided Mesa to a remarkable 22-8 overall record in the highly competitive 6A Division, culminating in a runner-up finish for the 6A State Championship.
Despite having one of the youngest rosters in the state, Stansberry’s strategic acumen and commitment to player development shined through. The team was anchored by the outstanding performance of superstar 6-foot-4 freshman guard Kyi Kyi Miles, the MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year, whose growth under Stansberry’s mentorship was a testament to the coach’s ability to nurture young talent.
Stansberry’s journey with Mesa High School spans over a decade. He began as an assistant coach in 2011, and took the reins as head coach in 2018. Since then, he has built a reputation for disciplined coaching and fostering a culture of excellence. His dedication has led to multiple playoff appearances and a thriving program that continues to excel.
With Stansberry at the helm, the future looks bright for Mesa High School basketball. His commitment to excellence and player development has positioned the program as a perennial contender, and fans can look forward to even more exciting seasons ahead. Congratulations to Coach Stansberry on a well-deserved 2025 Arizona Preps Coach of the Year award!
