The girls action at this year's 15th Annual Arizona Preps Fall Showcase was terrific; especially for those of us whom have grown to love high school basketball in the state. The Arizona high school girls did not disappoint the fans in attendance with their play, as many of the top girls in the state came together to put on an exhibition.
Amidst some exciting basketball action on the day, Desert Vista High School's 5-foot-9 junior guard Sabrina Haines showcased her basketball skills at a high level to earn this year's MVP award. Haines led her team to two victories in the event and did it in fine fashion - shooting the basketball with ease , making pin-point passes and playing with a flare to her game that I have not seen from her. Her impressive performance led our staff to select her as the event's top girls performer on the day.
Haines recently transferred schools from Mesa Mountain View High School, where she spent last season as a sophomore starter for the Toros. She landed at Desert Vista High School, where she will play her senior season and team up with highly sought after 6-foot-4 junior post Kristine Anigwe.
Haines showed excellent potential at an early age. A club teammate of Armani Hawkins (Arizona State commit) for many years, Haines is an explosive guard prospect that is capable of playing both guard positions and is able to score the basketball in bunches. An excellent shooter with superior toughness as a player, Haines is a physical guard prospect that locks up defensively. An elite high-major division-I prospect that will be capable of playing anywhere in the country when it is all said and done.
Haines proved that she is worthy of the highest college recruitment this weekend, and our staff is pleased to award her with this year's Tournament Most Valuable Player Award.
