One of the state's top overall girls prospects in Arizona's 2015 junior class is Desert Mountain High School's gifted 5-foot-7 junior point guard prospect Noell Kellers. Currently ranked as our #9 overall prospect in Arizona's 2015 group of girl's prospects, Keller is coming off an excellent performance in this year's Arizona Preps Fall Showcase; a performance good enough to help her see an even bigger jump in our next player rankings release.
Kellers was one of the major bright spots from this year's Fall Showcase, as she dazzled the crowd in attendance with a superior handle of the basketball, which allowed her to get anywhere she wanted to on the basketball court. Kellers also made players around her better with her ability to find the open teammate with superior court vision, and a knack for finding the open teammate on the floor. She has a unique ability of seeing plays before they happen, and, as a result, she is a terrific point guard prospect that also has a nice ability to score the basketball as well for herself - making her very difficult to defend for opposing guards.
Kellers caught my eye quickly in this year's event, because she has poise and plays with a high level of confidence on the basketball court. Her confidence on the floor is glaring and it rubs off on her teammates. As she plays with better players around her, she becomes more valuable, as she has the ability to raise the play of others - a rare quality.
Last season at Desert Mountain HS, Kellers did it all for a team that struggled on the season - finishing with a 10-18 overall record throughout the 2012-2013 high school season. While the team struggled to win ball games, Kellers soared - averaging a team-high 16.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists per/game on the season. Kellers poured in major numbers for a sophomore prospect in the state's top Division-I Class.
This season, look for Kellers to have an even bigger junior season for herself. If her recent performance in this year's Fall Showcase is any indication of what to expect, then watch out for this young lady as she has quickly become one of the state's elite prospects.
Also look for Kellers' college recruitment to begin to really take off next spring, as college coaches begin focusing on the 2015 class of prospects. She is among the elite point guard prospects in Arizona's 2015 class.
While Kellers is capable of putting up big scoring numbers for herself, she is an excellent floor general with an excellent handle of the basketball and a very quick dribble. She has very good court vision and makes plays with the ball in her hands. She pushes the basketball up the floor at tall times, and puts pressure on the defense. She also has a very good shooting stroke with range - allowing her to keep the defense honest, while also being able to blow by her defender and get into the lane.
Kellers is still however turnover prone, as she has the basketball in her hands a lot and still needs to develop in her ability to make the right play and not force the action.
Kellers also is a good overall one-on-one defender and has good lateral quickness for herself. More focus defensively will also help her reach her maximum potential as a player.
Kellers is also a terrific student - carrying a 4.1 CUM GPA for herself.
