The spring basketball season is officially underway across the country, and with it comes one of the most important weekends on the national recruiting calendar. Beginning Friday and running through Sunday, the NCAA Evaluation Period tips off, marking the first and only opportunity this spring for NCAA Division-I college coaches to get out on the road and evaluate top high school prospects in person.
As a result, Division-I college coaches from every level, especially the high-major Division-I level, will have their full attention focused on the nation’s loaded 2027 class, and Arizona once again figures to be one of the premier hotspots for elite talent in America. Numerous nationally ranked prospects from Arizona will take center stage this spring and summer on the Nike EYBL, Adidas 3SSB and other major club circuits, as players compete in front of hundreds of college coaches while battling for national recognition and scholarship offers.
One of the biggest names that coaches around the country will be tracking closely is Paul Osaruyi, a 6-foot-9 junior from CIA-Bella Vista Prep. Osaruyi (pictured) is regarded as the top overall prospect in Arizona’s 2027 class and is currently ranked among the top three overall prospects in the country by ESPN. This spring and summer, Osaruyi will suit up with Arizona Unity on the Nike EYBL circuit, where he is expected to be one of the marquee attractions nationally. A dominant rebounder and defensive force around the basket, Osaruyi has emerged as one of the hottest players in America after recently receiving major offers from programs such as University of North Carolina and University of Arkansas. His motor, toughness, defensive instincts, and physical tools make him one of the most coveted frontcourt prospects in the nation.
Another elite Arizona prospect that college coaches will be heavily focused on this weekend and throughout the spring and summer is Malachi Jordan, a 6-foot-6 junior wing from Dream City Christian Prep. Jordan, who can play both shooting guard and small forward positions, possesses excellent physical size and versatility and is widely regarded as one of the elite national prospects in America’s 2027 class. Jordan plays on the Nike EYBL circuit with the Oakland Soldiers and has already turned heads this spring with several impressive performances. He is a player many believe is poised to make a major jump in the national rankings over the next few months due to his tremendous upside, versatility, and long-term professional potential. Jordan has all the tools of a future pro prospect and is expected to be one of the most heavily coveted players on the EYBL circuit.
Another major name to watch is DeMarcus Henry, a 6-foot-8 junior from AZ Compass Prep. Henry will compete this spring and summer with Vegas Elite on the Nike EYBL circuit and has already emerged as one of the hottest prospects in America. Henry is considered one of the elite players nationally in the 2027 class and has already received numerous high-major scholarship offers this spring. His combination of size, athleticism, skill level, and upside has made him one of the fastest-rising prospects in the country. By the end of the summer, many expect nearly every major Division-I program in America to be involved in his recruitment.
College coaches will also have their eyes closely locked on Darius Wabbington, a 6-foot-11 junior from Sunnyslope High School. Wabbington will compete on the Adidas 3SSB circuit with the highly acclaimed Compton Magic program. Already holding numerous high-major offers, Wabbington has shown tremendous growth this spring with his ability to handle the basketball and operate more comfortably on the perimeter like a big guard. His expanded skill-set has elevated his national stock considerably, and many believe his recruitment will reach another level while competing with one of the premier club programs in America this summer.
Several additional Arizona prospects are also expected to draw significant attention from college coaches throughout the evaluation period. Chris Brown, a 6-foot-9 junior from Dream City Christian Prep, will play with the Utah Prospects and is another talented frontcourt player college programs are following closely.
Jalen White, a 6-foot-7 junior from CIA-Bella Vista Prep, will compete with the Oakland Soldiers and continues to emerge as a national-level prospect with tremendous upside.
There are also several Arizona prospects poised for major breakout spring and summer performances. LJ Diamond, a 6-foot-3 junior guard from Perry High School, will play with Dream Vision this spring and summer. Diamond is a big-time talent who many believe is ready to flourish on the national stage. His skill level, scoring ability, toughness, and competitiveness should draw strong attention from college coaches throughout the evaluation period.
Another player primed for a breakout spring and summer is Mick Riordan, a 6-foot-4 junior guard from St. Mary’s High School. Riordan will compete this spring and summer with Arizona Select, one of the top club programs in the West that consistently produces Division-I talent. Riordan is regarded as one of the best shooters in Arizona’s 2027 class and has the potential to significantly elevate his national recruitment this spring and summer. His ability to stretch the floor, combined with his size and offensive skill set, makes him one of the more intriguing guard prospects in the region.
With the NCAA Evaluation Period officially underway, Arizona once again finds itself firmly in the national spotlight. Over the next several months, the state’s elite 2027 prospects will have tremendous opportunities to elevate their recruitment, improve their national rankings, and prove they belong among the best prospects in America.
