Day one of this year's first annual NCAA Basketball Academy is in the books, and as division-I college coaches in attendance looked to see which prospects they were interested in on day one, AZ Compass Prep 6-foot-8 junior wing prospect Maxwell Lewis is one prospect that definitely caught the attention of many coaches in attendance - enough for Lewis to reel in two different division-I offers for himself.
During the event and after his first game, Lewis would receive an offer from TCU. After his second game of the event, Lewis would receive his second offer on the day from Washington State - two nice offers for Lewis. Lewis also currently has offers from DePaul and Arizona State. The Sun Devils recently extended an offer to Lewis while he attended their team camp last month.
While there are not many high-major division-I prospects at this week's first session of the NCAA Basketball Academy, Lewis is one prospect that definitely stands out from the competition, as he is a unique athletic talent with a very long, rangy frame. Lewis is very athletic and has a good overall skill level, which allows him to play inside and out. He has excellent versatility as a player, which really stands out as well, as he is able to handle the basketball like a guard and make plays for himself and others.
As a result of Lewis' size and ability to play the game, this week should be a very promising one for him, and he should benefit a great deal from the maximum amount of exposure that he is getting from attending this week's camp.
I will continue to follow Lewis' recruitment closely, and bring you any more updates for him as they continue to develop.
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: Lewis is a very unique talent with a super long, rangy frame that is very athletic and strong, which allows him to bounce off the floor quickly and play well above the rim. He can do things on the floor that many prospects his size cannot. He runs the floor hard and is an excellent finisher in transition, where he is able to dunk the basketball at a high level and over defenders. Lewis is a high-flying prospect and a joy to watch in the open court. He is a skilled, bigger wing prospect with a good overall offensive repetoire, that allows him to make plays off the dribble and also score from the perimeter with a developing perimeter shooting stroke. He will need to add consistency to his shot to be much more of a threat offensively, but his length and athleticism allow him to make plays while slashing or in the open court. He is an active rebounder, but he could focus more in this area to raise his overall play. He is an active and very good shotblocker, one of his best attributes. A very good overall defender that shares a striking resemblance as a player physically to a young NBA superstar Scottie Pippen. Has unlimited potential over time.
