The mere thought of one of the nation's elite level talents joining an already absolutely loaded lineup at Hillcrest Prep is scary, as 7-foot, 235-pound senior Makur Maker has decided to leave his current program, CIBA at Pacific Academy (CA), and immediately has joined Hillcrest Prep Academy. As a result, Maker left his current high school program during the middle of their competition in the Tarkanian Classic in Las Vegas, and will pick up the remainder of his senior season with Hillcrest. Maker will immediately join Hillcrest Prep in the Chick-Fil-a Classic this week in South Carolina.
Maker, who has already submitted paperwork to the NBA office to enter the 2020 NBA Draft, has had loads of NBA scouts following him this high school season. Maker is currently projected as a future NBA first-round pick, and should jump up to the NBA Lottery as the draft nears next summer.
Maker has stated that he is currently receiving the most college recruiting interest from a handful of schools - Oregon, Auburn, Washington State and Howard University, although he could be hit hard by just about every Division-I college program in America, if there was a belief that the program might have a chance in landing the future NBA talent.
At 7-foot in heigth, Maker is a superb talent and unlike anything most scouts/media have ever seen, as he is able to play as a point guard - displaying extreme versatility and agility on the floor. Maker is an elite-level talent that is glaring on the basketball court, and stands out a great deal, as a result of his extreme size, length, skillset and athleticism. While Maker is a pro-level talent, he should see his future as a small forward in the NBA, much like that of Dallas Mavericks (NBA) forward Kristaps Porzingis. He runs the floor very well and is a very good ball handler in the open floor. An excellent finisher in traffic and in the open floor. A good shooter with range on his shot and a good mid-range game. An active rebounder and finisher around the basket. A solid defender with good lateral quickness. An excellent shotblocker that can block and change shots with regularity. Maker has extreme upside and potential for the future and is a rare level talent.
While Hillcrest Prep is still looking to gain consistency with this year's team, after a rocky start to the high school season, the addition of Maker to an already and absolutely loaded roster is tremendous, as he will now make up the most talented roster of talent ever seen in the prep school or high school ranks. At Hillcrest Prep, Maker will join 6-foot-7 senior guard Dalen Terry (University of Arizona signee), top-rated 2021 national prospect, 6-foot-10 junior Michael Foster, 6-foot-7 senior guard Puff Johnson (North Carolina signee), 6-foot-7 junior wing Keon Edwards and top-rated 2022 national prospect, 6-foot-9 sophomore Sadraque Nganga.
