The Southwest Basketball Camp took place on Monday and Tuesday @ The PHHACILITY and included more than (100) different high school and prep prospects in participation throughout the event. Organized again by Gregg Rosenberg of Prep Hoops, this event is always fun to watch at the end of the summer, and as we prepare for the fall season. The event included many top performers, which we will cover throughout the week on Arizona Preps social media and website. While there many top individual performers in this event, two prospects stood out from the competition and in the Top 20 All-Star Game - Basha High School's gifted 6-foot junior point guard Mason Magee and PHH Prep's ultra-athletic 6-foot-4 senior Jaylon Dean-Vines.
Mason Magee is on the rise in America's 2026 Class, as he prepares for his junior season, in what looks to be a very good one. Magee was extremely aggressive in his play throughout the event, proving that he is set to have a big junior season for Basha. Magee displayed NBA level athleticism throughout the event, as he had, what I believed, was his most impressive performance to date. Magee showed off serious explosiveness off the dribble and attacked the lane with serious focus and intensity - dunking the basketball over defenders consistently throughout the event. His ability to finish at and above the rim was more than impressive in this week's event. While Magee is smaller in stature, it will not matter for him, as he has excellent physical strength and body control, combined with very quick hands and feet. While he did not shoot many jump shots throughout the event, he rather focused on creating off the dribble and scoring at the basket, or finding his open teammates for nice assists. Magee was a young man on a mission in this event, and he was well deserving of a Co-MVP selection. Currently has offers from Arizona State, Washington State, UNLV, Marist and Northern Arizona.
PHH Prep is absolutely loaded for the prep season, and especially among their OTE Elite team. A big reason for the program's success this season will rely on the exceptional play of PHH Prep's ultra-athletic 6-foot-3 senior Jaylon Dean-Vines. Jaylon is a tremendous athletic talent, and is one of the most athletic talents I have ever seen before. Numerous times he dunked throughout the event, his head was at rim level as he threw it down - on alley-oops as well as individual dunks. This young man has NBA elite-level athleticism and a great motor, which allows him to be very productive and get a lot done. He showed off his entire package throughout the event - scoring the half-court set and also in transition, both at a high level. He showed excellent range on his jump shot and a consistent shooting stroke. Jaylon Dean-Vines is a high major talent and prospect, and currently has offers from Oklahoma, Vanderbilt, Tulsa and UT-Arlington.
Congratulations to both of these two young men on their performances throughout the week.
