There are numerous prospects this season that will look to have breakout seasons on their respective teams and go to the next level. One of these prospects is Horizon High School's talented 6-foot-1, 160-pound junior point guard Jack Brackmann. Brackmann emerged this past spring and summer while playing on the club circuit. After several strong performances during the club season, Brackmann has proven that he is among the top pure point guard prospects in the state's 2023 Class, and I look for him to breakout this high school season, as a result.
Brackmann is a pure point guard prospect with a good overall skill level, which allows him to make plays for himself and others. A guard prospect with a very high basketball IQ and feel for the game, this young man is still very young in age for his grade, still only 16, and has serious upside as a player. I like his upside, and as he continues to get physically stronger and matures, his game will go to another level. He is an excellent shooter of the basketball with range on his shot and a quick release. He also has an improving mid-range game, which allows him to make plays off the dribble. He is a solid finisher now, and will become a much better finisher in the lane, as he gets stronger physically and matures. He is an strong ball handler and passer that sees the floor very well and pushes the ball up the floor with the pass. A floor general guard prospect that knows how to run a team.
I caught my first glimpse of Brackmann this past spring and summer, while watching his Quantum Elite club program perform in numerous events. Brackmann caught my attention with his consistent play from the guard position and ability to make shots with range and create scoring opportunities for his teammates. I was impressed with his overall feel for the game and ability to think quickly and react.
Horizon High School plays in a tough 5A Division region, as such teams as Higley, McClintock and Desert Mountain are in their conference, but Brackmann will do his best this season to lead a very experienced but once young Horizon team to a strong season. Horizon will return many of their players from last season this year, and Brackmann saw good minutes as a sophomore, and will look to now compound on his previous success as a 15 year old.
Brackmann is a small school recruiting target and should garner interest from many smaller college programs, since he is also an excellent student and carries an amazing 4.32 weighted CUM GPA. An excellent student-athlete and young man with high character.
I look forward to watching Brackmann continue to develop this high school season, and help lead a surging Horizon High School team that will look to make the 5A State Playoffs this season, and compete hard in a tough region.
