Arizona’s 2014 class of prospects may end up being the best class of college prospects ever in the state, as many players in the class already hold numerous scholarship offers.

One of the best prospects in the class is Gilbert Highland High School’s 6-foot-6, 215-pound junior forward Jake Toolson.  Toolson emerged on the recruiting scene last season as a sophomore, when he generated three different scholarship offers for himself.  This season, Toolson raised his level of play a great deal, as he led his Highland team to a strong record on the season, 18-10, in the state's Division-I Class.  Toolson averaged strong numbers this season - 18.9 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists per/game.

Highland's season would conclude with a loss to Dobson High School in the state playoffs.

As a result of Toolson's terrific junior season, he recently earned a scholarship offer from Brigham Young University (BYU), a member of the West Coast Conference.  On Tuesday evening, Toolson gave a verbal commitment to BYU and head coach Dave Rose and his staff.

A member of the Mormon faith, Toolson saw an opportunity to attend BYU and took it - choosing BYU over scholarship offers from Boston College, Utah State and UC-Davis.  He was also receiving strong interest from Arizona State and Utah.

Toolson was  a very nice target in the 2014 class, as a result of his tremendous size and offensive skillset.  He has a very nice shooting stroke with excellent range and has a good overall feel for the game.

Playing alongside 2014 top-rated post prospect Payton Dastrup brought a lot of recruiting attention to Toolson last spring and summer, as the two played together on the same club team, the Arizona Select.

Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report:  Toolson is a very nice target in the 2014 class, as a result of his tremendous size and offensive skillset.  He has a very nice shooting stroke with excellent range and is able to shoot from the standstill position or off the dribble.  He is a good low post scorer as well, but really likes to play on the perimeter where he is able to handle the basketball with a good overall feel for the game.  A good passer that sees the floor.  A good rebounder from the wing position.  A solid defender.  Competes with good work ethic and is a competitor.   Among the top overall prospects in Arizona’s strong 2014 class.
