Elite 1 Academy 6-foot-5, 205-pound prep guard/forward Leo Goodman has been his program's top prospect all season long, and one of the state's most unheralded wing prospects. Recently, Goodman took part in the NCAA certified Las Vegas Shootout held in Las Vegas, Nevada, for unsigned junior college and high school prospects in the West. Organized by legendary top-rated national basketball scout Jerry Mullen and Area Codes' organizer Chad Groth, this event was very good and involved many unheralded prospects that helped themselves over the weekend.
Each of the prospects in attendance improved their college recruitment on the day, and earned some serious college interest as a result of the event. Leo Goodman got hurt in the first game of the event, but he played well enough in a short period to really help himself with his performance.
As a result, Goodman gained serious recruiting interest from Cal State Bakersfield, Portland State and Stetson University.
Stetson University head coach Corey Williams and assistant coach Nikita Johnson, who has a terrific eye for basketball talent, have been recruiting Goodman for some time, but had not seen him play in person. After catching a glimpse of Goodman at this year's event, that was enough for them to make an offer to the talented wing prospect.
On Tuesday morning, Williams and his hard-working staff landed a verbal commitment from Goodman.
"Leo deserves this honor," said former Elite 1 Academy head coach Brian Ali, who coached Goodman this season and worked hard to promote his talented wing prospect.
Goodman is a native of Roosevelt High School in Eastvale, CA, where he graduated in 2014. He spent a prep season at Elite 1 Academy prep school in Arizona this season. Goodman will plan to sign a national letter of intent with Stetson University in May.
Congratulations to Goodman, his family and the Elite 1 Academy coaching staff and program on this accomplishment - the program's first division-I prospect.
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: Goodman is his program's top unsigned prospect in the 2015 class. He is a nice-looking 2/3 prospect with good athleticism and a nice shooting stroke. He has good range on his shot and also possesses a quality mid-range game. Goodman has a good body with size and good overall maturity. A good slasher and open court player. A nice-looking wing prospect with loads of potential as a skilled wing. He has a very good overall skill level, led by a nice perimeter shooting stroke. He also has a good mid-range game, which allows him to make plays for himself and others off the dribble. A good athlete and finisher. Solid rebounder. Good defender.
