One of the top prospects in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC), 6-foot-7, 200-pound sophomore wing JT Elder of Eastern Arizona College, has made his college decision. After a strong sophomore campaign, Elder has given a verbal commitment to Eastern Illinois University and will look to make a big impact at the Division I level.
Eastern Arizona College had a tremendous season, capturing the ACCAC Division-I Conference title with a stellar overall record of 29-4 and a 16-2 mark in conference play. The team was ranked among the Top 20 programs nationally for much of the season, and Elder played a significant role in their success.
A previous commit to the University of Georgia, after a strong playing career at PHH Prep, Elder averaged 11.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game, while shooting an impressive 53.2% from the field. A strong and athletic wing prospect, Elder possesses a unique blend of size, skill and versatility that makes him a tough matchup for opposing defenses.
I have been impressed with JT Elder’s ability to play the game for some time. At his height and skill level, combined with superb athleticism, Elder is a true talent. He’s very skilled and plays with a strong motor. As a bigger wing, he has the ability to score inside and out, and features a smooth mid-range game. He excels in the open floor and can be used in multiple positions on both ends of the court.
What stands out most is his efficiency and decision-making. Elder takes high-percentage shots within the offense and shoots the ball with range. He has a pure shooting stroke that sets up his ability to attack off the dribble, create his own shot, and finish strong at the rim. He also features a smooth pull-up jumper that makes him extremely difficult to defend.
Elder is also a strong ball handler and a good passer who enjoys sharing the basketball. He plays the right way and is active on the glass, pushing the ball in transition and making smart reads. Defensively, he has the length and quickness to guard multiple positions.
Eastern Illinois is getting a true sleeper prospect in Elder, and he should have a nice career at the next level. His best basketball is still ahead of him.
Congratulations from our staff here @ Arizona Preps to Elder and the Eastern Arizona coaching staff on this signing.
