The recruiting process has been a very interesting one for Hillcrest Prep 6-foot-9 senior forward Dischon Thomas. After giving a verbal commitment to the University of Nevada last fall, Thomas enters this fall as an uncommitted prospect. While currently an uncommitted prospect, Thomas has received several new scholarship offers for himself, and will look to make a new college decision for himself.
A year ago, Thomas decided to end his college recruitment - pulling the trigger with one of the top mid-major plus programs in America, the University of Nevada. But after thinking things over, Thomas decided to de-commit and re-open his college recruitment this summer, after playing through the club season with the Compton Magic (CA).
Previously Thomas held offers from UC-Irvine, Cal State Northridge and San Francisco, although it is unknown currently if each of these schools are still recruiting Thomas. Since re-opening his college recruitment, Thomas has received new offers from St. Louis, Princeton, Texas Southern and Kennesaw State.
It is unclear as to whether Thomas has a current leader for his services at this point, so it will be very interesting to see when Thomas will pull the trigger. Will he decide between the schools currently recruiting him this fall, or will he wait until the spring to make his college decision and look to reel in many more schools for himself.
Thomas moved to the state of Arizona from North Carolina just three years ago. He is a stretch 4-man with a long wingspan and good overall upside as a player. He still has some room for growth ahead of him, and should develop very nicely over the next year.
Thomas will help to anchor a talented Hillcrest Prep team this season, and look to generate much more recruiting interest for himself. I will continue to follow Thomas' recruitment closely this season, and bring you recruiting updates throughout the season.
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: Thomas is a long and lengthy forward prospect that is able to stretch the defense, but is at his best around the paint. He has an ability to score inside and out. He has a good length of body and a nice wingspan, which will help him a great deal over time. Thomas always seems to take good shots within the offense. A good passer out of the post. An active rebounder and shotblocker, Thomas utilizes his length to make plays. An excellent offensive rebounder. Thomas' wingspan also makes him a good shotblocker. He also has good timing as a shotblocker and changes shots of players around the paint. He should really improve in this area over time. He is a strong rebounder, especially on the offensive end where he is able to effectively rebound and get put-backs for his team. He runs the floor and finishes in transition. A good sleeper prospect.
