St. Mary's High School's talented 6-foot-7 rising senior Caspian Jones is coming off a very strong performance in this year's Pangos All-American Camp in Las Vegas, Nevada, @ Bishop Gorman High School, where he earned a Top 60 Cream of the Crop all-star selection from his performance in the event. Jones had one of his best performances of his young career in this year's camp. Jones is now really focusing on his college recruitment, as he is really putting himself in a position to be recruited by Division-I programs, despite the lure of the NCAA Transfer Portal.
Jones's college recruitment has been very slow for him for sometime, although it has been unclear as to why. Jones has been a top regarded talent among Arizona's 2025 Class throughout his high school career, but has been unable to reel in Division-I offers for himself. Now college coaches are taking notice of Jone's talents and are beginning to realize his potential. His recent Pangos All-American Festival Co-MVP performance this spring, and now his performance in this year's Pangos All-American Camp, and Jones look primed to take off. In the Pangos All-American Camp, Jones ranked among the Top 20 statistical producers in the camp, and was one of only (5) different campers in the event to rank in the Top 20 in points and rebounds.
This weekend, Jones received an offer from new Head Coach Scott Spinelli and Chicago State University. Jones also has an offer from the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC). He is now also hearing from Boise State, Lamar and Texas State.
Jones will look to focus now on the Section 7 event coming up later this month, as it will give him his best chance to date to receive much more and higher college recruitment. Jones will look to lead a young but very talented St. Mary's ball club that will look to build a new identity, after the graduation of Grand Canyon signee, point guard Styles Phipps.
Jones had a strong junior season for the Knights, as he joined forces with Phipps and 6-foot-9 sophomore wing Cam Williams to make for one of the state's elite trios. St. Mary's would have a strong season, actually winning (14) games in a row before entering the Open Division State Playoffs, and then reaching the Elite 8 of the AIA's Open Division State Playoffs - finishing with an overall record of 23-7 on the season.
I will continue to follow Jones' recruitment closely, and bring you any updates as they continue to develop this summer.
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: Jones is a nice overall talent that is just beginning to reach his potential as a player, coming into his own as a player and prospect. He is a versatile combo-forward prospect that is capable of playing inside and out, and will look to mature into a wing prospect with the ability to consistently make plays for himself and others off the dribble. He enjoys having the ball in his hands and creating off the dribble, while being able to make shots from the perimeter. He has really improved the consistency on his jump shot from longer ranges. He has a very good handle of the basketball that he has developed through hard work, and is much more effective as a playmaker, which he has proven that he can be. He is an active rebounder and finisher around the basket, and also runs the floor very well and looks to get easy buckets in transition. He is a very good and willing passer that sees the floor, and competes hard. He has excellent toughness, and should blossom nicely over time with continued work ethic and hard work on his craft.
