Tucson Rincon High School's 6-foot-11, 220-pound rising senior post Brendan Rumel was one of my clear favorite surprise performers of the spring, and he has continued his strong play this summer - leading his Arizona Power Tucson club team in the Double Pump Best of Summer tournament in Anaheim, CA.
With numerous low to mid-major college programs following Rumel around in the event, he recently received a scholarship offer from Portland State University. This afternoon, Rumel decided to end his college recruitment early - pulling the trigger with the Big Sky program.
Rumel is a true post talent with excellent size and upside for the future. After several performances this spring, the young post talent began drawing serious recruiting interest. Rumel is a rare find in the state of Arizona - a true low-post player with excellent size for the collegiate level.
Rumel is coming off a very good season in his junior year where he put up impressive numbers. Rumel averaged 17.8 points, 9.6 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per/game as a junior for Rincon High School - very impressive numbers for a developing post talent with another year of high school remainning.
Congratulations to Rumel and his family on this tremendous decision and accomplishment for his basketball future.
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: Rumel was the find of the spring and my top surprise performer. A large post prospect with excellent size and some strong potential for the future. Rumel is a big bodied post talent with good upside for the future. At 6-11, Rummel is a 5-man that plays like it. He runs the floor hard for his size and is a mobile post talent. A good low-post scorer that uses his tremendous size to finish plays strong at the rim, and also make plays inside the paint. Will need to develop his low post skills to reach his maximum potential in the future. Has solid low-post footwork. A good rebounder. Solid passer out of the low-block. Capable shotblocker. Has the potential and upside to develop nicely over time.
