Many prospects are committing to their respective colleges around the country, whether high school prospects or college transfer prospects. Another unsigned top-rated prospect in Arizona's 2024 Class is now off the recruiting board, after it was announced on Wednesday on social media that Brophy Prep's 6-foot-3, 185-pound senior point guard Braeden Speed has now given a commitment to Loyola of Maryland in the Patriot League - now signing with a Division-I college program late.
Speed had mulled over his recruiting options for some time before making his college decision to play for new Head Coach Josh Loeffler and his men's basketball staff. Speed's ultimate decision to play for a Division-I program is a tremendous opportunity for him, after he waiting for a long time to make a decision, and received loads of college interest but very few offers, although he has been worthy for some time.
Speed is coming off a strong high school career and he finished his career with a strong senior season for himself, as he led Brophy Prep to a 17-11 season amidst a very tough schedule, and an Open Division State Playoffs quarterfinal finish. Speed had an excellent high school career, as he was regarded among the state's top guard prospects throughout his career.
Braeden Speed is among the top available prospects in Arizona's 2024 Class, and is among the best pure available point guards. A very good student as well, Speed is an aggressive guard prospect that competes hard on both ends of the floor, and brings excellent energy to his team. He has good size at 6-3, and is a physical guard that does not mind physical contact from his defenders or opposition. He is a good shooter with range on his shot, which sets up his strong drives in the lane, where he is a very good finisher with either hand at the basket. He likes to push the ball on the break, and is very effective in finding the open man on the floor. He is a very good ball handler and strong driver, Speed is capable of playing both guard positions in college, but he will see the majority of his time as a PG. He is also a good on-the ball defender that plays passing lanes, and has very good anticipation. He has quick hands and feet, and can guard the ball effectively. I would like to see him continue to focus on this area of his game, which makes him a very valuable asset.
Speed played last summer with the AZ Select Under Armour-sponsored club program, which made the announcement about Speed on social media - another excellent signing for the AZ Select club program.
Congratulations to Braeden Speed on this amazing accomplishment and his future at the Division-I college level. Congratulations to the Brophy Prep program and also the AZ Select program on another college signee from our staff here at Arizona Preps.
