Another one of the top overall unsigned prospects in Arizona's 2024 Class is now off the board, after Perry High School's sharp-shooting and heady 6-foot-1 senior guard Barron Silsby is now off the recruiting board. After helping lead his Perry program to the program's third consecutive state title this past season, Silsby now lands at a nice NCAA Division-II program located in Missouri - giving a verbal commitment to Southwest Baptist University.
Silsby made the announcement last week in fine fashion, after taking several official recruiting visits for himself. Silsby's commitment to Head Coach Aaron Niven and his staff is a nice finish to a strong high school career for Silsby and the Perry basketball program.
Silsby is one of the elite shooters of the basketball in the state, and had a nice high school career for himself, after helping lead his Perry program to several consecutive state titles. As a junior, Silsby emerged as one of the top performers for a Perry program that almost went undefeated and won it all. This past season as a senior, Silsby returned again to play consistently throughout his senior season - helping lead Perry to a nice come-from-behind performance in the state final for the program's second consecutive Open Division State Championship. Silsby's strong and consistent play from the point guard position was instrumental in elevating the Perry program over the past two seasons.
Silsby consistently made big shots and spread the floor for his dominant teammates. He also provided a strong handle of the ball and consistent guard play that was essential to the overall success for the Perry program. In the process of Silsby developing over the years and leading such a high-powered program at Perry, he is more than battle tested for his transition to the collegiate level. He has been coached by one of the top coaches in the state, in Perry's Sam Duane Jr. and his staff, and he has worked very hard throughout his young career to reach this point. Silsby has been a gym rat all of his life and is the son of current Chandler Gilbert JC Head Coach Steve Silsby, a very successful coach in the industry at all levels.
Silsby also played last spring and summer with the Compton Magic (CA) club program, which he believes really helped his recruitment.
Congratulations to Baron and the Silsby family on this accomplishment and great luck to him in the future from our Arizona Preps' staff. Silsby is also an excellent student-athlete and carries better than a 4.0 CUM GPA.
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: Silsby has a true position as a point guard and also is an excellent shooter of the basketball with unlimited range on his shot. Has a high basketball IQ. College programs always need great shooters and Silsby can be a specialist at the collegiate level, while also having the ability to break down defenders off the dribble and create shots for his teammates and himself, as needed. He is also a good passer that sees the floor and enjoys getting the ball to the open man on the floor. He is a solid defender that slides his feet and sits low in a stance, and can stay with the ball. He is an overall competitor that loves to win and has a great attitude on and off the floor. An overall solid guard prospect that is fundamentally sound and is a winner.
