It was a lengthy recruiting process for AZ Compass Prep's 6-foot-10 senior post Luke Bamgboye. After receiving numerous high-major offers early on in the recruiting process, and as a mere sophomore, Bamgboye went some time without receiving another offer. After a transfer to AZ Compass Prep for his senior season, Bamgboye re-ignited his performance on the national stage. As a result, he would see his college recruitment kick-start once again. After receiving loads of Division-I interest as of late, and mulling over his recruiting options, Bamgboye has now made his college decision for Virginia Commonwealth (VCU).
Bamgboye will play for VCU Head Coach Ryan Odom, who named as the men’s basketball coach at VCU a year ago. Bamgboye had a long list of offers to choose from, as he previously held offers from TCU, Houston, Miami, Kansas State, Marquette, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Arizona State, Iowa, Xavier and SMU. Each of these offers came almost two years ago. Bamgboye began to receive numerous new offers this spring, before ultimately making his decision for VCU.
A native of London, Bamgboye is a very good looking prospect for a Division-I college program, and should be able to contribute immediately for VCU. He is a lengthy post prospect with excellent athleticism and a strong knack for being around the basketball. He does not need the basketball to make a play for his team, and is an excellent finisher around the basket. He has a strong motor as well, making him very active on the glass, and also a very good shot-blocker that changes and blocks shots consistently.
I look forward to watching his college career and congratulations to Bamgboye and the AZ Compass Prep program on another Division-I signee.
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: A native of London, Bamgboye is a very good looking prospect. He possesses very good size and athleticism, although he still has a thin frame that needs to add more size and muscle to maximize his potential as a player. He is extremely active though and gets a lot done. He is a high-energy and bigger forward that benefits a great deal from his motor and bounce off the floor. He has excellent length on his frame and can make plays without having plays ran for him. He has a nice jump hook and developing low post moves. His footwork is really improving as well. An active rebounder and an excellent shot-blocker. An active defender that competes. He has huge upside potential.
